Where does ANN WILSON rank in the echelons of female vocalists?

I hear a lot of:

1. Witney

2. Aretha

3. Janice Joplin

4. Bria Valente

But, where does Ann Wilson rank? I've heard some of her songs recently, and actually came to this strange epiphany.....by golly, this girl can sing!

Where do you think she ranks?

PIPES 4 DAYS!!! She certainly isn't unsung, however, when (most) people think of Heart, they don't immediately think of awesome vocals, so much as they think about awesome, kick-ass Rock 'n Roll. In MY BOOK, she ranks as a great, powerful vocalist, but sadly, this is not the case in most others' books. She's completely underrated vocally. sad

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

In a way she is unsung by your description because she is not as recognized (neither is her sister for being a great rhythm guitarist) as she should be. I think also Ann's loyalty to Heart, her sister and her refusal to do solo albums (I think she was offered a solo deal and passed on it during Heart's heyday) has contributed to this though it shouldn't. She has a very soulful voice and uses it effortlessly...

Heres the problem that ANN faced back then 24/7, she was a rock female vocalist, that genre much like the Rap game is dominated by MALES, lets face it, she could take Robert Plant to school in vocals, and yet i never hear any name but Robert's mentioned. When do u hear Pat Benatar's name mentioned? to me i only hear pats name when people talk about that horrible Love is a Battlefield video, but Pat to me is problem second to Ann in vocals. Thing is ANN is more than pipes but the problem is her genre is full of BALLS ONLY, and she doesnt have them, thats why getting into the Hall of Fame has been like walking up a mountain with 2 broken legs, her band HEART only got on the ballot because they ran out of people to nominate. But to me, ANN is tops in that genre and in ROCK i basically put her up with Freddie Mercury in Vocals.

Newayz...

To those who dig Ann, which song of hers in which she sang lead did y'all dig the most?

I'm a glutton for the way she sung on "What About Love", "Never" and "Crazy On You". smile Actually I think "Crazy On You" was one of the greatest rock songs to ever come out in the '70s mainly because of Ann's vocals, which as has been noted, gave Robert Plant a run for his money. nod

I'm critical of anyone who sings out of tune or keeps repeating themselves artistically.

Do you mean Crazy On You?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

honestly the best thing to do is get the "Road Home" cd, for me Ann doing "Alone" but acoustic, or "Dog and Butterfly" are two killers, Crazy on You like you said is one of the best rock songs ever. But alot of non hits are Heart's best stuff
