As overplayed as this song is, I never tire of it. Especially the live versions. This song was always the highlight of his live shows to me. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I know some people always comment on Luther and how he would go from skinny to fat. And at one time he was really big.....
But eh, i always found him pretty attractive. Especially in the 80's Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I don't think it was ever a fact about him being attractive. Some claimed he sounded different to them when he was skinny.
I never could tell the difference. The only time I thought LV sounded different was when he did his last album. I could hear the change in his voice. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I always considered Luther to be the ugliest man to make women wet

People complained that when he lost weight it affected his singing. Luther wasnt hideous.

Since we're talking about Luther... I have been watching some live videos lately and it has reminded me of how fresh his background singers were. He really seemed to showcase them too...
Anyone know what his relationship was to any of them?

Given his diva rep, I am surprised he let them shine. Also, how did the feud with En Vogue start? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Luther always let his background vocalists shine. He felt they were very important. After all, he used to be one himself. If you read his album credits, you will see a lot of the same names over and over.
A lot of them were friends of his when he was a session singer and he continued to tour and record with them until he passed. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

From my understanding, he got upset with them because they wanted to use the full stage to perform instead of allowing their musicians to be in the orchestra pit (where his were). I remember seeing that tour. It was an "in the round" stage and En Vogue was cramped up there and couldn't even shine because they were cramped. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

There was also that story about Luther and the frequent heat issue. According to his 2005 biography, Luther: The Life and Longing of Luther Vandross, Anita Baker would get into arguments about there not being any fans or cooling system on stage and backstage. Luther always stated that the use of heat helped him prepare his voice, as many vocal perfectionists usually say. Hence, the name of that tour was 'The Heat.' Ebony/Jet always printed articles about the drama that was unfolding during the shows of that tour. I always find that one to be among the most amusing.

I was at both of those tours. En Vogue gave a great show too, and Luther was the master with his vocal gymnastics. I saw Luther and Anita in the 80's. The first time I saw Luther was with DeBarge opening for him. We wanted to go for DeBarge, but quickly became Luther fans. We weren't old enough to drive, & had to get chaperones. The chaperones wanted to see Luther of course.
He could sing his ass off, LIVE, and his show was perfection, Vegas outfits and all. I miss ole Luthaaaaaaa
