Review:

I recently got the book entitled DONNA SUMMER: FOR
THE RECORD
by Craig Halstead and cannot recommend it highly enough!!

This
book is primarily a highly detailed discography that covers every Donna released
and
unreleased track I have ever heard of, (I cannot swear its totally
complete but it sure seems close if it’s not!)
from Denver Dream and early
performances with The Crow, all the way through To Paris With Love,
spanning
songs from her entire career to date. There are black and white photos of
virtually all albums and singles covers.
Many rare, hard to find tracks are
mentioned as well as albums on which they appear as compilations, etc.

Someone really, really did a fantastic job with this, it was compiled by a
true fan!! From Sometimes Like Butterflies to the tracks from
Moonflowers
and Mini Skirts, Funky Frauleins vol. II. and more.

Also
included are many, many quotes from Donna discussing various songs over the
years, tons of information
and backstory on unreleased tracks, info on
tracks on which she sang background vocals, such as for other artists;

tracks she sang with or background on for Brooklyn Dreams, a complete
discography,
indexes of television and film appearances, concerts, venues,
set lists, and more.

I am
so thrilled with this book, I couldn’t put it down without reading it all cover
to cover.
This is a priceless resource for Donna
collectors.

Review: I loved this book, it mentions all songs Janet ever made
(including unreleased ones, b-sides),
albums, movies and tv series.

The song is not always just listed, but includes countries where the
song ranked highest,
some information on the song (either from Janet or
producers)

Great information for Janet fans!

Review: 'This is a must
for any real Michael Jackson fan as it has everything you could want to know on
the king of pop.
It documents his many songs and some facts about each one,
as well as the unreleased songs. Also features
a complete chronological
listing of his albums (solo and group), videos and books. You can look up
anything,
song or album, he has released and find out its chart placing and
sales records. I have been a fan since the
Thriller album and thought I knew
everything about him but having read this I have found out some many interesting
facts.
You just won't want to put down this book once you get reading it.
Trust me MJ fans this is it!!
A fantastic book

Review: If you are a Whitney fan or just intrigued by statistics, this is
the book for you! An encyclopedic reference of every song she ever recorded or
performed in concerts (even including back-up vocals), the book offers
interesting details about the songs, where they originated and how they were
selected (did you know that "How Will I Know" was originally written for Janet
Jackson?). There are many songs here that I never knew she performed and with
the availability of YouTube, you can find recordings for most of them. The
"Albums" section includes dates of release, units sold, track listings, etc. and
includes UK editions. I also loved the "Concerts" sections which lists every
concert she ever performed. I was able to locate the date of the concert I
attended way back in 1987 in Birmingham, Alabama. A great reference and highly
recommended.

I have the MJ one, which is superb. It complements Joe Vogel's book nicely. I also wanted to get the Donna one at some point, but given that I'm still filling the gaps in my collection of her albums, I need to keep some money aside to eat, lol.

I don't get why there is a book on Janet-she is not what I would call an "Artist"

If you are going to be overly-critical.

I don't see how you can say that about Janet and not Whitney?

Janet co-wrote and co-produced majority of her music. She's also a great entertainer. What more do you want from someone, to consider them an artist? Please enlighten me.

There's already a thread about books.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
