Epic: Adele Returns To US #1

Adele Epic: Adele Returns To US #1

Adele‘s done it again!

In what can only be described as a ‘commercial wonder’ , Adele‘s album ‘21′ has returned to the top of the US Albums Chart, extending its lead as the longest running #1 album by a female in chart history.

Details below…

With 74,029 units sold in the last week, the LP holds court at the top spot, one week after its total sales surpassed 22 million copies worldwide, less than two years after its initial UK release.

This marking yet another feat scored by the Brit bred project.

Thus far, it has been certified Diamond in Canada, Brazil and France, 2x Diamond in Poland, 16x Platinum in the UK, 9x Platinum in the US and 13x Platinum in Australia.

Receipts.

Congrats to Adele!!!!!

There has been no confirmation of her #1. HITS numbers are too close to call and Alan Jackson may still come out on top on SoundScan. We'll know tomorow.

Wouldn't that make her equal with Purple Rain? I honestly never thought an album would be able to spend that long at number 1 again.

Billboard predicted it to be #1, so hopefully it is when the numbers come out today.

It's official, Billboard had the album selling 75,000 this week, enough for the 24th week:

While its a great accomplishment it's a double edge sword in a way, because it's a huge album it's overshadowing a dead industry, people are citing Thriller which is unfair because when u had thriller selling a zillion records u also had about 50 other artists selling millions too, now an artist selling a million is a rare blue moon accomplishment

I'm surprised the Beatles aren't on the all-time most weeks list. What's the deal with that?

Their albums stayed at top not that long, I'm guessing 5-10 weeks at the most.

The 60's had many huge groups... like to many to name lol so i can imagine even The Beatles not staying number 1 for to long.

ok, by my rough math based on those numbers, that's 88 million records sold. Diamond still means 10 million and platinum is 1, so this thing really is a friggin' juggernaut. She's outsold entire people's careers! she'll never top this!

As I've said before, people want to hear real singing and real songs that's why it's sold so many worldwide. People are tired of the Britney's and Rihanna's of the world, sick of rap, sick of hip hop and other genres. I think the appeal is just the simplicity of the music and how most of us can relate to her songs. We have all experienced rejection, heartbreak and hopefully love, so I completely understand why this album has sold so many copies. I think people around the world take her seriously because she's not selling it with sex, drugs, gang shit, etc.

Just my opinion.

  3. Movie soundtracks
  4. Hendrix
  5. Led Zeppelin
  6. The Doors

  8. Random folks (Hollies, Bobbie Gentry, etc.)

Need I go on? whistling The Beatles dominated but they weren't the only charttoppers, don't get it twisted. lol

^^ The most a Beatles album stayed No. 1 on the Billboard 200 was 15 weeks, here's a rundown:

Meet the Beatles (1964; 11 weeks)

The Beatles Second Album (1964; 7 weeks)

A Hard Day's Night (1964; 14 weeks)

Beatles '65 (1965; 9 weeks)

Beatles VI (1965; 6 weeks)

Help! (1965; 7 weeks)

Rubber Soul (1965; 7 weeks)

Yesterday and Today (1966; 5 weeks)

Revolver (1966; 6 weeks)

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967; 15 weeks)

Magical Mystery Tour (1967; 8 weeks)

The Beatles (1968; 9 weeks)

Abbey Road (1969; 11 weeks, non-consecutively)

Let It Be (1970; 5 weeks)

1967-1970 (1973; 2 weeks)

Anthology 1 (1995; 3 weeks)

Anthology 2 (1996; 1 week)

Anthology 3 (1996; 1 week)

1 (2000; 8 weeks, non-consecutively)

----

Also the albums (in bold) that replaced these albums at No. 1 during their heyday (minus the hits sets):

Meet the Beatles - The Beatles' Second Album (marking the first time a musical act replaced itself at No. 1)

The Beatles' Second Album - Hello Dolly original soundtrack

A Hard Day's Night - People by Barbra Streisand

Beatles '65 - Mary Poppins original soundtrack

Beatles VI - Out Of Our Heads by the Rolling Stones

Help! - The Sound of Music original soundtrack (both were soundtracks oddly enough)

Rubber Soul - Going Places by Herb Alpert and His Tijuana Brass

Yesterday and Today - Revolver (second time the Beatles replaced themselves)

Revolver - Supremes A Go-Go by The Supremes

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Ode to Billie Joe by Bobbie Gentry

Magical Mystery Tour - Blooming Hits by Paul Mauriat and His Orchestra

The Beatles - TCB by Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Temptations

Abbey Road - Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin

Let It Be - Woodstock original soundtrack

I disagree. We saw this with Norah Jones recently. Not comparing the two, but it could just be the same thing.

Also the Beatles released 2-3 albums a year early on and then at least one a year later on (1965-1970) no one today is doing that kind of rate and also selling alot of albums, Rihanna does about 1 year but they arent selling Beatles numbers. Also the beatles were cleaning up on the singles charts but also there was competition, Adele really has no one out there now that is competitng, mainly because labels and media have tunnel vision, whether its ladygaga or beyonce or whomever the "icon" of the moment is the days of having 10 hot albums out at once all selling are dead and buried (yes that is a rant about the shitty industry), but people have to stop and just realize that TIMES are different and some time periods had better talent than others plain and simple.

EXACLTY my point competition! In the 70's Elton was cleaning up topping the charts but he was holding that spot for long, because Stevie was there, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, tons of great bands etc... and the 80's though you had MJ u also had a onslaught from Prince, Madonna, Bruce, George Michael, and even people no one ever mentions like Styx or Rick Springfield had albums that sold 5 3-5 million consecutive, and tons of others, competition and also MUSIC MATTERED then now it takes a back seat.

You see i have to differ because the artist that Norah is and that is not Adele's style, i really think you wont see much from adele right away, Norah was everywhere recording and really hasnt stopped since 2002, shes been on at least 50 other artists albums and had side groups and done uncredited stuff too on albums, now props to adele, but she aint gonna do that, plus Norah is not for everyone, she has that loyal base that will never go from her, but the first album was a fluke and she knows it.
