Shucks, Musiq? Now you REALLY talking about a guy who makes the same album over and over and over again. Not only that, he sucks big time live too. I still want my $15 back, even if it is 3 years later.

I heard his voice cracks when he sings live lol

Quickest way to a coma, if you're into self-induced comas.

My sister dragged me to one of his concerts in Atlantic City, what a nightmare that was disbelief

That being said, his story is incredible and I'm glad he made something of himself, but his music is boring as sin.

I gotta say though, and I might take the heat for this but, women are the blame for these bland ass artists' existence boxed

Went to Kem, Eric Benet and Brain "The Pussylogist" McKnight - and I swear, it wasn't by choice either - their concerts were wall to wall packed with women.

And they were into it like you would never believe.

There was this thread that got posted in here a couple of years ago that royally pissed me off, something about "did women ruin the music?" given that they were/are the most loyal consumers in the music market.

Today? I don't know, I might reconsider my feelings about this, and I can't believe I'm doing so lol

Will Downing sung to his own tracks? Wow. My mom loves him, but I find him just as boring as Musiq.

He made a point of mentioning that Kem called him at the last minute because El couldn't come... I'd never seen him before, so I didn't know if he usually had a live band.

All I know is that the "grey shiny suit" was the uniform of the night. All THREE of those Brothas had them on! It was like there was one, and when Will was done, Joe put it on, and when Joe was done, he passed it to Kem. lol

** When I saw Maxwell with Jill Scott, HE had a grey shiny suit, too! omg

Will Downing's one person I never understood his popularity at all. neutral It's like someone just put him there and told him "sing a love song, people love that" and he's been in that spot for 25 years now...

The thing is, ALL of the artists mentioned in this thread are actually *talented* which explain why they're still here.

Their material is the reason why I don't get into them. But I understand why they won't tamper with that, they found their niche market, and hey I suppose the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" argument is true in their case.

Well, not Brian because to say he rocked the boat lately is a big understatement.

And nothing sucks than a talented artist who is stuck in moments they can't get out of because it's too basic and when you like basic stuff, that's "basically" what you get. neutral Brian's a tryhard though. lol

I bought his first cd, but after that all his songs sounded the same. He is basically an al jarreau ripoff and really not worth getting into. Anthony hamilton is very talented and underrated. Robin is okay, but really doesn't excite me.

Funny that's exactly how I feel about Anthony Hamilton and them watered down spiritual sounding songs he keeps recording over and over again. evillol His first cd was great but after that I couldn't get into anything else. I might as well open up a Hymn book instead and sing to myself.

[Edited 6/14/12 14:43pm]

nod

Although i like a couple of his recent songs. They all sound so similar i can't

even name them. lol

I have a friend who absolutely loves him, so she blackmailed me into going to his concert (I asked her to go to the W2A concert in NYC, and she said only if I go see Kem with her).

Since I don't like to go to a show and not know any music, I bought all of his albums. I played them on shuffle up until the concerts, and they were okay. shrug

I thought that he put on a good live show, though.

She talked me into going to another show, and although he's playing near us again, I think 3 times is too much. boxed

BTW: Both times, El DeBarge was supposed to open for him (a selling point! lol), but was "unavailable" each time. Instead we got Musiq, who fell off the stage, and Will Downing & Joe, who sang to canned tracks of their own music like karaoke. rolleyes

spit WTF? Were his sunglasses too dark? Or did his glass eye fall out and he was trying to catch it? evillol I know, I'm so wrong. lol

I'm gonna ask brother Anthony to sing one of his church hymns for you. lol

First and second CD's are great, IMO. The last one, not so much.

Agree with this. Kem's music has become predictable and formulaic, but I dig his style. Just can't tolerate the same sound. His first two albums, Kemistry and Album II, were winners. But, I'm partial to Kemistry

Sounds like the male version of Anita Baker. Except for "The Songstress", every album after that sounds the same. It's like some of these singers find a formula/sound that works and they stick to it. They don't dare venture outside of that. I like Anita but her music is just too damn predictable!
