I think it's still very impressive she has done this with only 3 number 1 hits!

Katy Perry has 6 and he album barely went double... Rihanna had like 5 or 6 hits off her last album. And already has 4 from this current.

But hell Adele was selling like crazy when she only had 1 single!, it seem's a lot of times you can have a number 1 song but still barely go top 10 on the album charts confused

It's actually quite simple: she's an albums artist. Katy and Rihanna are singles artists. geek

It goes beyond those 2. I think nearly everyone is an albums artist's these day's lol

I am suprised people actually bought Ushers album!

No they're not. lol

As for Usher, he has a pop hit (somewhat) but his sales for this album allegedly are not what his last album was...

Not these days. His new album is predicted to sell 120-125k copies first week.

Great stuff huh? wink

But nah, on the mainstream side, there's a handful that are. And those who aren't just keep selling more singles...

You know what? I think I'm actually going to buy it even though I've been listening to it for more than a year.

I don't have it yet and i'm contemplating whether to get it:

I like 'Someone like you' , 'rumour has it', and there is a few album tracks i heard that sound nice.

but aint feeling 'fire to the rain (is it called that?)', 'rolling in the deep' and her 'lovesong' cover is so boring.

My favourite song of hers is: 'water and a flame' a duet with Daniel Merriweather which was one of the handful of songs i actually purchased from I-TUNES - i liked it that much - but others didn't seem to feel the same - it's one of her lowest charting singles sad

But what people miss is that it sells because of the underlying message, you have to have something everyone can indentify with. Why were the Beatles universal, they sang about love, peace, happiness..etc...if they sang constantly about how life sucked they would have lasted an album. Adele is singing about heartache, shit who hasnt had that, people always say things like "why does bon jovi sell 150 million albums" well the message they have is straight forward and to the point, if they were like Radiohead they'd sell about 150,000 albums cause everyone would be like "what the hell are they talking about" . People always say sex sells, guess what, it doesnt really, the theme of love and heartache outsells sex about a zillion to one.

I love Adele and own both of her CDs but I agree that she's kinda boring. If you've seen one of her performances, you've seen them all. I sold her live CD because it was pointless to own. But...her live performances are actually great! They're just so similar. I think she deserves all of her success though. I love her voice but it doesn't move me like Amy though. Amy was on another level vocally anyway with her vocal runs and jazz chords.

It STILL annoys me when people say she does soul music. There are lots of white singers who have soulful voices but aren't soul artists (Hall & Oates, Adele, Elton John). And then there are white artists who make soul music (Teena, Robin Thicke, Bonnie Bramlett, Jon B). There is definitely a difference between the two!! The artists in the first category have more mass appeal because they aren't associated with a black form of music (r&b).

http://stupiddope.com/2012/06/14/adeles-21-ties-princes-purple-rain-billboard-record-music-news/

Over a year after it’s release date, Adele’s multiple Grammy award winning, phenomenal multimillion bestseller sophomore album 21 is still racking in big sales numbers. Last week, another 75,000 copies flew off the shelves, putting the chart smashing LP in a three-way tie with Prince’s Purple Rain soundtrack and also the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever maintaing 24 nonconsecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200.

60 out of the 68 weeks since 21 has been released, the heavy-hitter has managed to stay in the top three position of Billboard’s Top 10. Furthermore, the album has never dropped lower than #7. With 9.3 million albums sold in the U.S., the record is less than a million units away from being deemed diamond.

Adele can you show you how it’s suppose to done. THIS is how you make your own path in the music industry. Her music has such incredible stature and every song seems to be a classic. If you haven’t picked up your copy of 21 yet, hit up iTunes or your nearest Best Buy or Target to see what the fuss is about.

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

ok, by my rough math based on those numbers, that's 88 million records sold. Diamond still means 10 million and platinum is 1, so this thing really is a friggin' juggernaut. She's outsold entire people's careers! she'll never top this!

Diamond and platinum awards are not uniform, but country specific. Your numbers are for the U.S. only.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
