the only people who listen to Adele are hipsters who shop in abercrombie and fitch, and drink at Starbucks and have hardons over social networking like twitter and facebook.

Yeah, some of her songs are ok, but she is so boring, i'd rather listen to a mixtape of my own fart sounds than her album.

Is that something similiar to those who listen to rap? Ya know, thugs that steal (I'm mean shop) at Walmart, drink out of plastic 40 bottles and have hard-ons over shooting or robbing someone.

Obviously, my comment is pure sarcasm meant to show you how assine your comment is. neutral

I have never shopped at A&F, can't stand Starbucks coffee and have never used twitter or facebook.

omfg yeahthat

I am in the rare class, that really doesn't care for Adele. She has not evolved into anything MUCH since her genesis. I am all about change, and yet a carried reminiscent consistently. She has remained in the same rendition for quite some time now.

The proof of this is when I lived in Europe in watched her perform for the 'EMA's. It was very bland, she had her typical black dress with pearly decorations and jewelry on. The performance did not speak to me on any emotional level. Then when I came back to the states, I watched her at the VMA's or MTV awards, perhaps both of them...

AND I could have sworn it was the SAME performance at the EMA's! She had the same/similar black dress, style, delivery, and tone. There was no new addition, it seemed very formulated and contained a STILL SOUL. Personally, I love soul that causes ugly faces, and crooked expressions...lol. She stands still, with delightful blue eyes, with a prowess that is remarkably boring for me. (That's just me!) There is a place for stillness, but I expect a storm sometime! lol. I can't remember the last time she stormed.

AND, for her to sale as many albums as she does makes no sense to me? I rather see expressed the hardcore struggles of life. Like addiction, relationship failure, obsession, and sex. Now of course these things don't always need to be talked about. In fact these things have been talked excessively lately in POP, Hip-Hop, and many other genres. But I don't think it would be a problem if the production did not sound so weak, typical, and plastic. I guess what I am saying is I prefer Amy Winehouse.

I am NOT in comparisons either! I don't like to compare, but when I hear she is the Next Amy, I shiver. EVEN when they claim she is the Etta James of our generation. O NO..Don't be anyone else..But yourself. smile

It's a shame Amy passed as early as she did, but her music transcends, her soul was into every note in her delivery. She wrote these songs, and studied the message. She had a drug engulfed life, but her music displayed the poetry of that darkness.

Not everyone needs to be an addict, or go through a traumatizing experience to be good. I am not saying that, but I think when you can channel your heart break through a tune, you're in for something unmistakably coherent and likeable. (Counting, if you're talented, and have awesome production..AND SOUL:) The problem I have with Adele, is that her 'Heartbroken' lyrics are not that shattering to me. 'Someone Like You, Rolling In The deep, and Set Fire To The Rain' are pretty typical of any break up song. "I miss you, but I can find someone else. I love you so much, and you hurt me and you could have had it all." Nothing that really sets with me...lol..Cause I heard it a thousand times..

AND yes my opinion matters just as the rest of people saying she is the next best thing. I have reason to not feed into the hype, if anyone wants to..Go ahead, but not everyone digs her.

I am not one to feed into the hype of Adele. I remember her when she started. "Cold Shoulder" and "Chasing Pavements' brings sweet memories for me. But anything after that '19' became extremely predictable and not to mention lackluster. It suffers, and there are too far great singers without recognition like: Jill Scott, constantly not given the awards she deserves..AND so many others..

BUT...I digress.. It's her's for the taking. I hope she runs with it, and finds solace and comfort in it. I'll just turn the page. smile

SPLHCB sold because of the concept, the style (iconic cover), the R-A-V-E reviews (even slighty vomit inducing, lol), the promotion, the positive word-of-mouth and the still fresh Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane single released some months earlier...

and Lucy and Help from My Friends were huge, despite not being released as singles...

cool

I think she has a great voice. I am surprised she became so popular in the US. I don't listen to mainstream pop radio stations since moving back to the US. I just rely on community radio stations. Commercial radio is horrible where I live in Florida.

I think if someone in the top 40 has a talent such as singing or actually playing their own instruments then good for them, seems a rarity these days.

the more I read vitriolic comments like this one, the more I enjoy Adele's absolute reign...

it's confirmed that, when an artist reaches the double diamond status or something like that, a bunch of morons appear out of nowhere claiming that he/she "sucks"

and btw I'm no hipster, I don't drink in Starbucks, I have a FB account which I barely use and I bought the album because the lady can craft solid soul/pop without using unnecessary synths/auto-tune. In fact, I think you haven't even heard the album, because 5 of the 11 songs are upbeat an/or fast numbers...

well, if Adele is boring (btw folks, she has another album lol, which is upbeat/sweet), then Lana Del Rey is the Queen of the Braindead zzz

hell, when people say "hipsters" I think of Lana del Rey, Wilco or similar unfunky, arrogant stuff...

Yeah and Lana's music is some boring ass bullshit. I'm still shaking my head that Bobby Womack is working with her ass. neutral

Also, I can't think of Lana now without imagining her doing her imitation of a drunken old lady dancing, moving around like a dunce. lol Adele also has TWO hit albums (and I got them both with my money biggrin) so she ain't no one-album wonder either. And yeah, her first album had a good mix of upbeat/slow cuts.

and I still think that many orgers hate Adele because her sound isn't blatantly influenced by Motown and 60s soul; and yes, I'm talking about poor Amy Whinehouse, RIP

Adele is more like the second coming of dames like Dusty Springfield, Carly Simon or Joni Mitchell...

btw, what will do Duffy now? neutral

21 was basically based on her breakup if I'm not mistaken. This album could very well be the PetSounds of the Internet generation. Yes, 21 is an oversensitive album, but it's far from boring or repetitive. Even the slowest song of 21 isn't as boring/pretentious as Video Games or Blue Jeans falloff

Actually there's folks who haven't gotten the album and probably got it because either folks told them about her or they watched her without knowing and dug what they heard. Also people are still buying the album as "presents" for loved ones so I don't think there'll ever be a low week for her until this year's over. lol She'll surely be ten million copies here by the time this is over. nod

A local critic mentioned Adele while previewing a show by St. Vincent:

Strange beauty: St. Vincent performs in the Town Ballroom

St. Vincent -- aka Annie Clark, the 28-year-old musical prodigy and contemporary art-rock auteur -- is the delightful thing that happened to pop music while the mainstream was distracted by Lady Gaga’s meat dress and Adele’s faux-soul overtones.

Clark released her third album, "Strange Mercy," in September. Its genius is close to subversive. The startling variety and confident sonic and compositional frippery evident throughout the album suggest the blossoming of a feminine talent unheard since Bjork released "Debut" or Kate Bush her own "The Dreaming." Its pop hooks are delivered as anti-pop manifestos. Clark seems to have arrived beneath the radar, to quietly change the game for everyone, whether they’re paying attention or not.

How will Clark transform the beautifully lush, atmospheric sound of "Strange Mercy" into concert material? Find out when St. Vincent -- Clark on vocals and guitar, Matt Johnson on drums and keyboardists Daniel Mintseris and Toko Yasuda -- arrive for an 8 p.m. show today (May 5) in the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.), with guests Shearwater. Tickets are $18 advance, $22 day of show (box office, www.Tickets.com).

I think it's still very impressive she has done this with only 3 number 1 hits!

Katy Perry has 6 and he album barely went double... Rihanna had like 5 or 6 hits off her last album. And already has 4 from this current.

But hell Adele was selling like crazy when she only had 1 single!, it seem's a lot of times you can have a number 1 song but still barely go top 10 on the album charts confused

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

It's actually quite simple: she's an albums artist. Katy and Rihanna are singles artists. geek
