She's aged very well!
As for the rest of the tea in this thread, wow. Who knew there was all of this happening with background drama with the Mary Jane Girls ?!
I'm actually playing tracks from their debut album on my iTunes as I type this; just went from hearing "Musical Love" to "Hurting on the Inside"

I always thought V6 was much better than the Mary Jane Girls "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yes,she has aged very well. She looks great
The drama surrounding them would make for an explosive "Unsung" episode

I think Vanity 6 were more edgier and outrageous, but the Mary Jane Girls were more of a "real" group,if that makes any sense

She sure has aged well. She looks terrible in those shots where they try and recreate the Mary Jane Girls drag - they all do. That is a big mistake for some mature women. If they are not going to do a modern/updated take on the MJGs they need to just stop and let it go. It will go nowhere but for a couple of bookings a few checks before self destructing - and at what cost. This will hurt the branding she is talking about with her other work. She is a testament to that youthful lifestyle and diet - like a motherf...... And frankly that is way more interesting material than this Mary Jane Girls bull. But she might write an interesting book about Rick and the 80s, she seems to know how to tell a story and has some charm.
Jo Jo probably makes a good living doing her thing now, and she doesn't have to put up with some chicks she would probably rather not be around. Seems like she wanted to be solo and not to be around them back in the day, why would she want to reunite now?
Maxi quoted Rick and may have answered the question herself when he said that he already had enough bitches trying to be Patti Labelle. She may have been right there "next to him" but I would doubt that she knew what vocal tracks were really being mixed at the end of the day; obviously the lead vocals were the MJGs, but beyond that ???
The killer in the whole interview is the svengali stuff - she really laid it out. From Rick to Berry, Phil Spector to Prince, why are these brilliant men so selfish at the end of the day with their talent? Not a one of them needed to make more money, accomplish more musically or receive more acclaim. Why stop someone else from moving ahead, even if you were part of their start?

Right. while I enjoyed both groups (HUGE Vanity fan), there was no one in Vanity 6 who could even come close to Jo Jo's vocal ability. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I really want an Unsung on them "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yep! They definately have an interesting story to tell. But, being we only managed two albums out of them, I don't know how likely TV ONE would consider doing an episode on them. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Trust me, even with 2 cds-how many did Klymaxx do? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I knew of at least 4 albums by Klymaxx. I just looked up their discography and they've actually had 6 album releases. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Maxi B is so awesome at explaining all of this so diplomatically that she really has me rootin' for her version of the MJG's, the one that has the Stone City Band! I really hope JoJo and her husband put their business caps on and realize the huge potential of the original group over her solo aspirations.

Fortunately that host doesn't speak too much, he is killin' me with that bullfrog voice "Teddy Bear" "lawd have mercy" at every pause

One time,I saw JoJo in concert, performing with two backup singers. One of the girls didn't even know the dance moves!

JoJo sang lead on their most requested songs, right? "Candyman", "Boys", "All Night Long", "In My House"

"Shine" is a pretty good song.

Rick talks about how JoJo let her husband start putting bugs in her ear like she was the group in his book. Specifically he calls him a trick who was always hanging around.

Shine is a nice song, but we're fans of the funk. No one can even produce funk anymore?
