Federal prosecutors have charged Lauryn Hill with willfully failing to file three years' worth of income tax returns with the IRS. The elusive singer, who gets most of her money from music and film royalties, is said to have pulled in more than $1.6 million in the period that she failed to declare.

In addition to being an entertainer, Lauryn also operates four corporations, including Creations Music, Inc., Boogie Tours, Inc., L.H. Productions 2001, Inc. and Studio 22, Inc.

The New Jersey native hasn't released an album since 2002's MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. Lauryn has been scheduled to appear in court on June 29 to address the tax issues. The charges against her carry a maximum possible penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

She makes much less than I would have guessed.

Im sure she will claim this is a conspiracy against her once again, and the voices in her head told her not to pay the devils taxes etc....or she just tried to skate around the fucking law, while the peeps she talks about starving and and not getting their fair share etc...she is actually ripping them off. I love how i got a threatening letter of jail time because i added wrong one year and owed the state of nyc $7.55 and this B**** hasnt paid for 3 years the fed.

Just speaking the truth she isnt the first nor the last but it bothers me more with her because she talks all this crap about the "common and the poor" and she has the cash, she still pimping royalities off the fugees stuff and her own debut, so she is a huge BS artist. So in this instance i cant seperate the Person from the MUSIC for the simple reasons, she has no new music to speak of, and she is full of shit on every level

I appreciate your opinion. Can't say that I disagree with you. I don't think she's full of shit, but I think she needs to get a grip on reality. Some people seem to lap up all her BS, but I take it for what I think it's worth.

I think we can safely agree that there are some double-standards in her views and ways of doing things

Seriously, what's up with "these people" not paying their taxes? Damn, I know there's an H&R Block in her neck of the woods; file an extension and you have until Oct to file. Dumb.
