Nas and Cam'ron onstage sharing the same set. The return of Lauryn Hill. Fox boogie and Minaj together? Lil Tunechi touches down in the tri-state area. This was the night New York City hip-hop queen Nicki Minaj had in store for her hometown. But one word from Young Money boss Lil Wayne and the plug was pulled on one of the greatest shows that never happened. Could it all be so simple?

Earlier in the day during the Hot 97 festival that attracted more underground hip-hop acts such as Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q, radio personality Peter Rosenberg angered Wayne after he referred to Nicki's "Starships" track as "bulls--t." Shortly after, word got back to Weezy who made it clear that "Young Money ain't doing Summer Jam." But that was just the beginning of the drama that would unfold for the remainder of the evening.

"Now before I get to the real hip-hop s--t of the day, 'cause I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here, I see 'em" said Rosenberg. "I know theres some chicks here waiting to see the "Starships" later but I'm not talking to them right now. F--k that bulls--t. I'm here to talk about real hip-hop s--t."

Once word was sent that Nicki and the entire YMCMB camp would not be performing at Summer Jam 2012 Funkmaster Flex put Hot 97's position against the Nickster on full blast declaring war on the Queens native.

“We ain’t fu--in with commercial rappers no more" Flex declared during intermission. "If you lost the fu--in streets, its your fault! If you don’t go gold, its your fault! I’m dedicated to tearing you down! F--k with me! We gon show you mama, you think you didn’t sell any records this time?”

For the most part of the night Rosenberg remained silent as his Twitter timeline took off like the second installment of "The Avengers" at the box office with users split down the middle, some chastising the radio jock for his "unprofessionalism" and others agreeing with him.

Not far from the vicinity of the Met Life stadium Nicki took her show on the road partying at a disclosed location joined by some of her guest appearances including Foxy Brown, Cam'ron, Beenie Man and more.

Back at MetLife as thousands of fans exited the stadium walking by a pink makeshift stage that got its moment, the house lights went on inside following Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group's dominating set. DJ Khaled was slated next to follow Ross after his set but Lil Wayne's "no performance" directive stretched across the entire YMCMB roster. Cash Money artist Busta Rhymes was also present at the show but never hit the stage showing allegiance to his new family.

It’s been said one monkey don’t stop no show, but a slighted Harajuku Barbie can certainly throw a wrinkle in the plans. Billed as the header for New York radio station, Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2012 concert, Nicki Minaj backed out of her performance after radio host Peter Rosenberg dissed her song “Starship.”

While hosting a pre-show festival that featured performances by Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T. and A$AP Rocky, Rosenberg reportedly said the warm-up performances featured “real hip hop” and fans shouldn’t expect to hear any “Starships.” Clearly referring to Minaj’s pop-flavored hit, the comment was not well received by anyone in the Young Money camp. Lil Wayne promptly tweeted, “Young Money ain’t doing Summer Jam.”

Minaj soon followed suit with a string of tweets of her own. “Wow. U n----- just f----- up history. But the President has spoken,” the Queens MC wrote.

With some of her fans confused by the news circulating that she was not going to appear, Minaj set the record straight to those disappointed Barbies. “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against Wayne’s word. What he says, goes,” she explained in a tweet.

Adding insult to injury, hip hop’s leading lady teased fans with a series of tweets that showed what she had in store for them. Along with appearances by fellow YMCMB stars Birdman, Tyga and Weezy, concertgoers would have seen hip hop legends Nas, Lauryn Hill, and Foxy Brown grace the stage with Nicki. With no such luck, fans also missed out on seeing Cam’ron, and reggae stars Beenie Man and Spragga Benz.

Though the controversy did steal some of the thunder from the annual concert, fans still enjoyed performances from Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, J. Cole, Meek Mill and T.I. among others. Even Nas and Lauryn Hill performed despite Nicki’s absence.

Hot 97 is a HOT mess without a gathering of HOT MESS artists, i heard from people that went that this show was lousy and the best thing was the Trailer from the Rosa Acosta Webseries "LOS BLANCOS"

She called in to Power 105.1 this morning I missed it, hopefully it'll be up on YT later. I don't care for her but that was a really stupid thing to do, it was like he was setting the audience up to turn against her. Who does that?

I can see where she & Lil Wayne is coming from. If she would have went on that stage peeps would have started throwing things at her. It doesn't take much for a crowd of haters to turn it into a negative situation...She is an artist first.

I disagree with the idea of people throwing things at her. I doubt Nicki would have even done her pop songs for such a hip hop based crowd. "Starships" probably would not have seen the light of day at Summer Jam. With her bringing out the guest that she had lined up, she would have probably ended up being the star of the show for sure.

Yeah it does feel weird now having some respect for weezy, but Nicki calling into that radio was a mistake. Besides talking about Wayne teaching her to respect herself it was mostly just a bunch of ego filled yelling over each other.

MTV DOES IT! They did it to Britney knowing she wasnt ready to take the stage and we had that whole BS thing with "gimme more" (sorry but i thought she looked HOT) but then MTV threw her under the bus, and then a year later paraded her back out as an apology to her.

HOT 97 is trash, as are its DJ's, i have no respect for that station, it lost its credit over a decade ago, and as i pointed out people i heard from that went, said the show was a mess the best thing was Rosa Acosta's movie trailer.

And on that whole Britney MTV thing, thats where i knew Rihanna was a shitty person overall, when she had that "Stank" face on while Britney performed, I mean Britney on meth, coke, booze, and on no sleep would be more interesting to watch than Rihanna
