I asked myself that question recently. At least SWV came out with a new CD. But nothing popular ala En Vogue, Destinys Child, etc. I'm sure alot of groups out there, but not being signed due to not as popular anymore. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

What happened to SINGING, period? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

They're not very popular these days, but a bigger reason is that diva behavior tends to take over the most successful groups. It was true of The Supremes, when Diana Ross was favored over Mary Wilson, who arguably was the better singer of the two. It was true of En Vogue, when Dawn Robinson thought she was all that and decided to jump out on a solo career (which went nowhere), and it was true of Destiny's Child, which most people thought was around just to make Beyonce into a superstar before going solo. Heck, even a less heralded group like Danity Kane broke up because Aubrey O'Day thought she was the best person in the group.

Looks like that same diva type behavior killed The Pussycat Dolls too.
It killed The Spice Girls also.

Did you see her on celebrity Apprentice? Man was she a conceited person. I see why she never made it. She sang awful on the show too. I don't think she was that hot either. I had never heard on her before the show. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

TLC was not killed by that poison because they were a real group and built off eachother.
Diva symdrome usually is the case for groups that arent real groups. En Vogue is an exception but groups like Destiny Childs, Pussy Cat Dolls, Danity etc were just manufactured female groups that honestly were centered around the lead singer being the superstar.. that isnt a group.

They are out there but record companies aren't signing female groups right now because it's popularity isn't in season. Right now, it's the era of being the next Rhianna, Beyonce, Chris Brown or Lil' Wayne. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They started singing gospel like Mary Mary, and there's BarlowGirl on the pop side. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Nope it's Yoko's fault. She broke up The Beatles. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. The last girl group I remember having any bit of success was Cherish, who had 1 hit, and 2 other minor hits. Apparently they're still together and working on another album but it keeps getting pushed back

Yes, I guess some of you are right. Either it's not the season or female groups are played out. But then again there is a group that someone posted about named 'King', and even opened for one of Prince's LA shows last year, but I guess they're not as widely-known to many yet. Also, I can agree that with some of the former members of girl groups, some got a little Diva Fever, which eventually causes the group to disband. I guess I just miss those days when they were around. It's like the 70s/80s and even the 90s had quite a few of them around, and now it seems the music scene has changed altogether, and the industry now caters to solo artists....that all sound alike these days..

I've always loved The Emotions' music. They had a nice sound. [Edited 6/3/12 16:39pm]
