Wow, only 70, damn that seems young. GOD bless him, he had a full life and career before the accident, that's why he was a Full Grown Man in my eyes that didn't have to alter his music to follow the trends of the time. Thank GOD and Curtis's blessed soul for the gifts he shared with us, thank you. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Amazing writer but as a producer was also great for other acts. Can always count on his material.

Curtis does not imo get enough credit. For intoroducing politics into African American music. From his time with The Impressions to his solo career. Hell Bob Dylan himself said curtis was one of the great social writers.
And the curtis album is practically the Highaway 61 Revisted of soul music to me. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

^ I don't know. I think he gets a LOT of credit for that. I think his stance on pride was stronger than that of James Brown's during the same time period.
What I don't think he gets credit for is his guitar playing, that brother could play the hell out of that damn guitar and I think he also played (alto?) sax on his records, basically he was a multi-talented musician, a hell of a bandleader, film composer, and he pioneered that laid back falsetto vocal that some in hip-hop use. Also he's probably one of the top five most sampled solo acts of all time. I think he's only second to James in samples.

That's true
But i meant from a songwriting perspective, i have personally never seen him mentioned as much as Dylan, Stevie, Lennon etc. And i think he deserves it just as much! to me he wrote songs that sparked a generation. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Oh lol yeah I agree in that aspect. I actually think he was the most important artist to ever talk about those issues more than the aforementioned artists (yes I'm serious ).

I think there all equal imo
Stevie, Dylan, Curtis to me are the power trio of great music writing.
Although many will disagree but whateva Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
