eh, it's not that bad IMO, the songs are so different. Plus I don't think lennon ever pretended he was not referencing this song.

I know. But judging from the covers CT got, I prefer the Ike & Tina version lol

I don't really get it. Are you saying that Come Together rips off that song? Long shot IMO.

I can see the vocal rhythm being similar in parts. But other than that they're really nothing alike.

Come Together shits all over it BTW lol

John was sued (not by Chuck) by the publishing company because the first line of Come Together comes from You Can't Catch Me.

True! I heard it the 2nd time when I was listening for it.

Obviously a quote by Lennon. He loved that music. certainly wasn't the making of Come Together though although that rhythm was continued through the song. You can't sue somebody for referencing a rhythm though as far as I know.

John was sued though, and recorded some songs on his solo album Rock N Roll album as a settlement.

On John's cover of the song (from 1975), the tempo is slower, and you can hear the similarity to "Come Together" better.. though I still don't think he 'stole' anything.. a lot of songs are similar. As far as I know, Chuck never complained about it.

I certainly don't think it's a ripoff. But because he took the one line and the melodies are similar, I suppose it is possible to see it that way.

If you never bought the album Let It Be... Naked, you should.. it's a better produced, cleaner sounding version of the original album. "The Long and Winding Road" sounds a lot different, too.

Totally agree. It's a much better album. Except, I still had to wonder why they included Across the Universe which was recorded at a different time.

The Wildlife version and then this rare one are my two favorites -- I dig the female vocals on them -- but the Naked version is way better than the album version.

Eh, I'm not a big fan of Naked. "Across the Universe" is the big improvement for me (but again, I prefer the Wildlife version). Spector's strings are by far the best part of "The Long and Winding Road"; I find it rather boring and, well, naked without them. I also don't like that they used the live version of "Don't Let Me Down" instead of the single version.

Actually, I skip The Long and Winding Road on either album LOL

I never really got Paul's indignation about the strings. The strings perhaps helped to make it a fleshed out classic.

I can see liking the original better.

Mostly, I think Naked is closer to the album they set out to make, and it is cleaner. Just music, no awkwardly cut voiceovers or snippets of songs. I mean, I suppose I am glad to have heard the original album with Maggie May and "I DIG A PYGMY!!!" but ultimately Naked feels like a stronger collection of songs [to me]

I think the controversy about the strings in "The Long and Winding Road" has always been a bit overblown. The reality is that the track was never properly recorded - the version used was a rough run-through with a good vocal. The instrumentation is full of mistakes, John was playing bass, and his part was clumsy and had plenty of flubbed notes. Spector had to cover up the mess w/ strings. And besides when Paul played it live in the 70s he used a very similar arrangement, as I recall.

The Naked version is a better performance of the song, apart from the vocals which are very tentative compared to the originally released version. But the sound is pristine and it's really nice to hear w/out the layered strings.

But overall I think "Naked" is a vast improvement on the "Let it Be" album. Most of the tracks benefit from the new version, IMHO. "I've Got a Feeling" for instance is terriic.
