Aretha makes deal with Universal to re-release last five Atlantic studio albums

According to a report by Roger Friedman on the Forbes website, music legend Aretha Franklin has made a deal with Universal Records to finally release the Queen of Soul's last five studio recordings for Atlantic Records including 1974's With Everything I Feel in Me, 1975's You, 1977's Sweet Passion, 1978's Almighty Fire and 1979's La Diva.

These albums, which Aretha co-produced and retained the masters on, had not been released on CD previously. But it's not the only part in Aretha's Universal deal, Aretha is looking to promote other acts on the label and more re-releases of her material could be in store.

Aretha's Records was formed by Aretha (I forget the year though) and was the label she used to release her last studio album, 2011's A Woman Falling Out of Love. Aretha recently signed a deal with Clive Davis to overlook new recordings.

To check the report about this, google Aretha Franklin and scroll down until you see "News on Aretha Franklin", it should be the first headline you see under there.

I have the Sweet Passion record, but I don't know anything about these extra tracks.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The article did say more releases of old stuff were coming so maybe that's just the start of it. I'm anxious to see if she does release the DVDs of her performances.
