Simon Le Bon-Great singer or just ok? I would never say he had range, but he gets it done. You? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Simon is one of the greatest voices of the past century. He may not hit Prince-ish high notes, but he can belt one out proper. I have seen Duran Duran numerous times live and this man is a born singer that delivers. I've heard his voice crack a few times in shows and have never suspected him of singing with a backing track or miming ala Madonna.
I would say that Simon is a great singer, especially when you consider his peers and time spent touring. Duran Duran rivals KISS in longevity and high performance standards.
(PS I was never on the he-so-sexy bandwagon I am talking purely about his vocal talent)

He's truly awesome. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Simon definitely sings live. I highly recommend seeing Duran Duran live at least once. I think Simon's vocal strengths come through on ballads/slower songs like Save A Prayer, The Chauffer, Ordinary World, and Come Undone. He has some range and while I love the songs, I don't put him on that great singer level, like a crooner, but he can surprise at times. He had some vocal issues a year ago and took a break from touring, but he's back on track, and the band has done an international stint for most of the year. Another stateside tour will be starting in the summer.
And I'm not afraid to admit Sexy Simon is still swoonworthy. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

He has a good high voice ala Sting, but Sting has a higher voice and more range. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

I wouldn't say he's a "great" singer, but he's a great frontman. His singing is better than the average joe who is not a musician; but amongst professional singers/musicians, he's not one of the best.
And yes, he sings live, always! He sings full-length all the way through every concert, that's tough to do. I saw them last fall, and they were good.
I recently read/skimmed Andy Taylor's memoir "Wild Boy" while killing an hour at the library, and he says that the moment they first met Simon, they knew he'd be a great frontman - not the best singer, but fit exactly with what they wanted. He was a drama student and was really comfortable in front of cameras for videos, and really charismatic on stage, and didn't shy away from interviews. And he was very professional - had trouble laying down the vocal on their first album, but was not ruffled by the impatience and criticism of the producers and crew, he just kept at it and took all the advice. He's been professional about trying to train his voice and protect it.
So he's not a great singer, but I think a band would be pretty fortunate to find a singer/frontman like him.

Anybody who say that Simon can't sing should listen to A View to Kill, chorus is really high and i'm not sure Sting could hit those notes ,i said this because of Sting comparation.Simon sings very high for a man.

I think Simon has blossomed into a wonderful singer. His tone is very clear, he can get quite high in his chest voice (View To A Kill, Wild Boys) and he also has a fairly strong baritone as well (New Moon On Monday verses, New Religion). I think he's always had range but now his control is better. I think he also has interesting lyrics and a unique sense of melody in terms of his writing. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

the guy has a charimastic/recognizable and completely efficient voice
but he cannot sustain the rigours of a tour. Period. Not an awful singer live (a la Rihanna), but he often struggles...specially with the old, frantic material (New Religion, Reflex, etc)
and yeah, I agree with some orgers, Sting has the same virtues/problems...

I know that. His voice is good for Duran Duran etc. The op asked if LeBon was a great singer. All I did was give my opinion. I like a lot of Duran songs but I know he isnt what is deemed a 'good' singer. Come on now, stop this. Skin Trade, Rio, Hungry, Notorius, etc are good songs but LeBon is not a great/good singer.
Neither is David Lee Roth, Jagger and some others but that doesn't mean they aren't good for what they do or my boys.
BTW, to whomever, Emotional Rescue is not a 'nasal whine' but a high assed soul falsetto..much different fomr that View To A Kill "whine"

Duran Duran is one of my absolute favorite live shows.. seeing them again here in a few months in Tulsa. I think Simon's a decent vocalist, but he's a great frontman.

He DOES push it out with a whine, but I love it

His voice is great for the genres he sings under and I dig it. One of the most iconic voices of the '80s to me.

Just ok to me. I only really like him for Hungry Like a Wolf and the theme song to that Bond movie. I don't ever want to hear that scalded dog song New Moon on Monday again. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
