Do you like MTV nowadays?

Hey guys, I'm new to the org, so I don't know if this subject has already been brought up, but.... How do you feel about MTV nowadays? If you like it, why if you don't like it, why?

In my honest opinion, I HATE MTV! It was cool in the 80's and 90's when it made sense for it to be called Music Television! Nowadays, theres nothing but Jersey Shore, Tenn Mom, etc. that lower your IQ, and are a bad influence on our generation. I think they should either create a separate channel for the music, and rename the piece of trash teens call MTV to STV or Sh** Television. I truly don't get how the programs on the show are entertaining, yet alone acceptable to the TV audience.

How do you feel? confused

I don't subscribe to cable television. Probably the last time I tuned into MTV was back in the late '90s; trying to catch the odd Jamiroquai video. Do they play videos anymore?

I gave up on MTV back in the 90's at some point, dont really recall the exact date, but i pretty much watched it less and less and cared less and less, Making videos now is even less important to people than the actual music is, so to me its a dead thing. I didnt even know they play videos anymore do they?

Only Vh1 (now MTV-owned) plays videos, but when no one is awake, like at 5 am.

Yeah thats what i thought havent watched VH1 really since the end of GOOD episodes of Behind the Music and the only other decent show they had which was "Bands Reunited", but the funniest thing is when MTV has the MTV video awards show (why i dont i know) and then someone that presents or wind an award gets up and says how "Mtv should play videos" as if that will change them. Basically now if you want a video its on YouTube or the artists website that you like.

MTV Hits and Fuse are good at playing lots of current music videos and related programming, but I'm not a fan of most of the current American hits. Just have to have a higher cable/satellite package (one level higher most places)

No, I'm not into MTV anymore. VH1 used to be my refuge but now it airs more "reality" shows than music-based programming.

There is a digital subchannel I watch called The Cool TV. http://thecooltv.com/

All music videos and concerts, reminds me of old MTV. Last Super Bowl weekend, it aired nothing but Madonna videos.

Do I like it? No. Not regular Mtv. And the other Mtv channels show far too much crap, too.

Do I watch it still? Yeah. I'm not going to lie about it. I do.

I regularly watch anything with Rob Dyrdek; Fantasy Factory, Ridiculousness, repeats of Rob & Big.

I love the Real World/Road Rules Challenge/Duel shows. I still watch all of those even though I haven't watched Real World for years.

Lastly, Mtv still shows a big block of videos in the morning and sometimes I'll leave that on for a couple hours just to see what they're playing these days.

But in general, like everybody else it seems, I definitely miss MUSIC television.

Yeah. There's been porn for years where some guys and/or girls walk around with a stack of cash and try to get women to do nasty, dirty stuff. Sometimes you can tell it's staged, but sometimes you can tell it's really random "strangers" who want the money. I'm pretty much certain that's where the person who developed the show for Mtv got the idea. ....it's the first thing I thought of, anyway. lol

I haven't watch MTV for music videos since 1993. But I was still watching BET (mostly because of Video Vibration & Video Soul), The Box, Friday Night Videos, & Nighttracks around that time.

These days, I only watch YouTube, Dailymotion, & Yahoo! Music for music videos.

It hasn't even been MTV since the mid 1990s. It has been bullshit reality TV.

I was about to say that MTV is music related so it belongs in this section but then I realized that there's nothing music related on MTV anymore so you're right, this thread does belong in the General Discussion section. lol

And the thing is, MTV and all these other stations shot themselves in the head, by buying into cheap money, better known as Reality tv, now dont get me wrong i liked "BANDS REUNITED" but that show wasnt "reality" because it was "reality" never scripted, all reality shows are fake and scripted, sad that it took america 20 years to catch on to that one. But all these shows stopped investing in the older music, so there was no catalogs being buit. When MTV started and for a good time, they didnt just play a new video, they had shows playing older videos, they all did, but that went away, once soundscam and viaCON (my version) took over and sold everything off, and made their money of snooki and i love new york and stupid shit like that, and left music to die
