Come on now, (to the orig poster).

I feel sooo old, at 46.. not feeling the music from Beyonce - at all. wink

You're not old. She sings generic, shit teeny-bopper club music. That's why you don't feel her. It doesn't make you old. It just shows you have mature musical taste.

True enough, Beyonce may not ever be as great a performer as MJ was. The-Dream's opinion is "his" opinion, though. As far as both The-Dream and Beyonce being relevant... they both have a lot of presence in the hip-hop/R&B/pop scene. Outside of The-Dream writing for Beyonce, he wrote Rihanna's hit single "Birthday Cake" recently (which was all over the radio). Lets not forget he wrote Justin Bieber's hit "Baby" ( I didn't care for it, but it was a hit non-the-less). He also contributed vocals to Kanye West's "All of the lights" single. He also had vocals on Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch The Throne" project. He's getting it in... very relevant. He also has a moderate single on urban radio entitled "Roc" right now. His "Love-Hate" album is one of the best R&B albums that have come out in the last few years. If you're familiar with the genre, you can't deny that. He has some "Prince-type" tracks as well: "Fast Car", "Yamaha", "Falsetto" for example. He uses the MPLSound to his advantage at times.

Beyonce is very talented. Whether it's her PR team or not, she's making some solid singles and giving some of the best shows . She is a cut above the rest in her genre (of this generation) and I'm not her biggest fan. I just give props where props is due.

I personally dont understand why some people want to attack Beyonce, fine you dont have to think her music or performances are good but she's worked hard and in reality doesnt have to prove herself anymore. In the US, an artist always has a "peak" and then the public and the media wants to kill that artist and make them look like shit, just like they did with Mike. I'm not comparing Mike to Beyonce, that's just a fallacy. She's very relevant in Europe and other parts of the world tho, just because one artist doesn't sell in the US doesnt mean she's not relevant. When I heard this comment from The Dream I honestly didnt care, because EVERYONE from Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and so on have been compared to Mike and the reason to this is because he's the greatest entertainer that ever lived ; so obviously they want to have their name attached to greatness.

I've been to so many different concerts in my short life, hiphop&rap, r&b artists, soul, rock, neo-soul and I've seen Beyonce perform and she's def on a different level than her contemporaries, she's a great performer; it's def a show and I love that she actually sings and not lyp-synchs. Michael respected her and Prince also respects what she does.

That doesnt justify that she is very mediocre in comparision to them.

Michael also respected T pain, Akon, Fergie and William.. so I guess their one of the best as well JUST because Michael liked them???

I think an opinion can be forumulated without having to validate it off of someone else and besides Prince said Beyonce had TALENT.. that doesnt necessarily mean he admires her music or feels shes all what she is hyped to be in the same with Michael and so forth because in all honesty they know shes overrated to.

I believe Prince has more respect for an artist like Janelle who exactly creates and is talented and doesnt rely on gimmicks...

And she isnt that relevant in Europe or other parts of the world. Shes just a big star in America. Her albums key word ALBUMSSSS first off dont sell alot let alone outside America... and maybe if she wasnt so up her ass and conceited nobody wouldnt attrack her.. People are tired of her overrated behind. Nobody hasnt attacked or has said anything that isnt true...

Oh and she does lip sings... All her so called live vocals arent live.

I wouldnt put Beyonce on the same level as T-Pain, Akon, Fergie because he only worked with them because they were popular and he liked Beyonces drive as a performer, but when asked about the music of today he never said that he liked it. He never said that those artists were the best, he thought they did hit songs that went well with the young audiences.

Yes, I personally didnt like that performance with Prince & Bey, but whatever at least he respects her for having Talent like he said in his own words. As for Janelle, (whom I love and seen live ) she needs to work on her stage performanes and to say she doesnt have gimmicks is not really true, she has the robe that she puts on every 20 minute during the show and vocally she needs to work a little bit more when she dances, because she gets out of breath and she's about to turn 26 soon (not that age matters, but I know she could put on a great show if she wanted). I think her overall performances are good but she doesnt have enough material out yet, also I think her band is good but they need more interaction with her, which I think Beyonces band has with her since they've been playing together for a while.

Actually she is relevant in Europe, because she's always being cited among producers, industry people and artists who work in music. The X Factor in the UK is a perfect example, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole , Jessie J (Adele cites Destinys child & Beyonce as an influence) and always talk on how they want to be like Beyonce. If the most famous artists in Europe cites Bey, she's def relevant. A person like hmm, Mya for instance isnt relevant to the masses anymore not the case with Bey.

I think its perfectly acceptable to place Beyonces music on the same level as T-Pain, Akon, Fergie as well as her talent because one, her music is no better than theres and two, her talent is really not that much greater than theres...Singing and some stage presence thats it.

The only reason I brought that up was because your validating a couple comments he made regarding Beyonce as to justify why people might not care for her musically or overall. I honestly think thats a cop out immature arguement because what he said or another artist thinks doesnt justify aother artists work or talent.

Michael has never, out of his mouth said that he admires Beyonces work as a performer specifically and I think alot of people on this subject matter specifically put words in Michaels mouth as far as how he exactly felt about Beyonce "artistically" which I honestly believe wasnt much.

When asked who he liked, she was one of the artists he named and he did insist he was proud of her. However, there are alot of artists that he said he liked and would mention frequently alot OVER Beyonce such as Chris Brown, Usher which he OUT OF HIS MOUTH said that he liked them because not to many people could sing and dance at the same time very well and not to many artists could do that. You can exactly look that quote up on google if you want.. I dont like Chris Brown but thats what he said.

He also said he thought the artists out now could be more creative overall. I just think its bullshit how people always bring up what other artists have said about Beyonce as to validate her talent or shitty music.

I never insisted that Beyonce didnt have talent. Everyone can see that she obviously has some form of talent but that talent is heavily exaggerated and there are artists who are just as talented and alot that are MORE talented that produce better quality music.

This isnt a competition. I just brought Monae to show that there are other artists that put on just as good of a show or better. I think Janelle is fantastic live but thats my opinion your entitled to yours...

Also, Janelle has her image which I guess can be like a type of gimmick from the point of view you stated but she doesnt place that ABOVE her music. She doesnt sale sex, rely on her looks or radio gimmicks She strictly relies on her talent and pushes herself artistically which was my overall point and its obvious that is what is MOST important to her even if she does technically have a gimmick.

You seem to think other people or artists validate someones popularity or superiority in the music industry when it doesnt mean anything. This paragraph right here is exactly the reason why alot of people have responded the way they did to The Dreams comments.

Congradulations you just proved a point.

This whole paragraph according to your logic makes "The Dream's" statement on Beyonce being on the same level as MJ true.. since he said it.. it must be true... this is YOUR logic since you validate something off of what OTHERS say or at least this is what I got from your posts so far and by the way not just this one..

Just because some artists from Europe said some comments about Beyonce doesnt mean shes relevant THERE. Those artists are also relevant HERE in the USA so of course they know about Beyonce being she is a commercial artist in the US. Ive heard them talk about lesser popular artists doesnt mean their relavent in Europe also.

Im strictly talking about her music in relation to the GENERAL public and the over all impact it has OVER THERE which I know for fact is 0 because I have some UK friends who come over here and they say Beyonce is no where near as popular over there and the closet popularity she has had over there was the Single Ladies song. UK is not bumping Beyonce 24/7 or sponsoring her musically and just because someone over UK makes a statement about her doesnt mean that represents Europe entirely which is an exaggeration. She is no where as relevant over there as she is over in the US which exactly is slowly fading. She ISNT Michael Jackson confused confused

I think the main reason why Beyonce gets a lot of animosity and backlash both on here and other places is because she is way overexposed and a lot of people are tired of her...they're suffering from a Beyonce OD. She's been going non-stop since 97 and hasnt really taken any time off out of the limelight. Plus it feels like she's been constantly shoved down the collective public's throat and overhyped for the past decade. I remember when people were calling for her to take a break back in 2006....but here she is 6 years later still runnin around like the energizer bunny. I get that she is very ambitious, very hardworking and has the energy to work as hard as she does. But although SHE may not be tired of working and ready to take an extended break, many people are TIRED of her and ready for a break from always having to see her plastered everywhere or hear about her latest project or some dubious award or accolade she is buying getting.

I remember when people used to wish she would hurry up and get pregnant so that she would be "forced" to take a break and go away for a couple of years to have a baby and raise it. Well now we all see how that turned out! lol So a few months after she has Blue Ivy she does this comeback concert and now comes word that she is working on yet another movie. And she's probably in the studio working on her next album. I think most people now have come to the conclusion that she'll never go away but its just that a lot of folks are just plain sick of hearing and seeing her all the time. They respect that she has talent, and yes she's better than a lot of her contemporaries like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, etc. But just because she is more talented than some doesnt mean people want her in their faces all the time. She has worn out her welcome and that's why there is so much resentment against her. My twocents

Constant despite the fact that Beyonce has not a lot of really great songs, she is a very good performer. Good vocal, emotional, appeal.
But she needs a better repertoire, IMHO.

I'm a music student and a musician and I talk to so may different types of people about music; and (most people that I've talked to) don't put Beyonce on the same level as they do T-Pain, not that it matters but it's an opinion, that I dont think very many people share with you. It's irrelevant though because T-Pain is not popular like he was in 08. Again that's your personal opinion that you think that shes hyped up, that may or may not be true, your opinion is not more important than anyone elses. Music is not a competition hence if people think Beyonce is the greatest artist for them, they are entitled to that opinion then if you look at the bigger picture they might see other artists that are better.

It depends though, in todays music image and music goes hand in hand, since the late 70s. Just because Prince in his early years wore a bikini on stage (and sold sex to the masses) doesnt make him a bad artist, I have spoken to many jazz artists (who are famous) who look down on Prince because of this and cant take his music serious.

I honestly couldnt care about your sarcasm, my point was that Beyonce is relevant in Europe and for many people in the industry. It's funny you say this, I live in Europe, I travel to different parts of the world all the time, my friends are musicians, engineers, producers, I have my bestfriends living in London and you know what, Beyonce is VERY relevant. She's not on Mjs level because quite frankly NOBODY will ever be! You say that Beyonce's fading but yet she sold out her first comeback concert in Atlantic City? Also music isnt a competition, numbers mean something in the beginning (because you're trying to make money) but then it quickly fades away. It's a sick mentality that people have today, that only because an album, single or tour doesnt do well it's bad or you're loosing touch with reality, it only means those temporary fans moved on to something else, while your true fans still follow you.

lol Crack is clearly getting stronger. Like him or not, Mike was a genuine one of a kind talent. Truly 'out there' as performers/artists go.

Beyonce hasn't done a single thing that has stopped me in my tracks. MJ and Bey are worlds apart.

The best performer since Michael Jackson is Prince.

I frankly could care less if your a music student/musician because to be honest that doesnt make your opinion more credible than mine but if it makes you feel important to say it then.... okay. I dont get why alot of orgers do that as to validate their post.. just say your post and keep it moving.

Yes I rank Beyonces generic music the same as Tpain because it is the same and I dont think her talent is all where its hyped up to be. Shes an okay singer with some stage presence that rips off Tina Turner. She doesnt write music, play an instrument or produce any of her music. Shes not a real artist to me so yea I place her in the same category as T pain who isnt a real artist to me either.

Unless you personally like childish, generic music.. thats your opinion. Its ALL the same and just because its Beyonce (who is a bigger star than T-pain) doesnt put her above anybody because she still falls in the same category as far as Im concerned musically.

All this post is just alot of generalizations and opinions that you have of what MOST people think about her or what YOU think most people think about her. I guess the same is with mine although Im not claiming to know everything to the T or Im a expert of something as you are which to me is immature because it shows you cant back up your arguement intelligently. Because I can easily say as well that Ive talked to alot of people who dont care for Beyonce musically or talent wise and I HAVE but I know there are some that dont hold that opinion.

Im not here to speak for everyone, just giving my perspectives but there are others obviously that feel the same way as I do.

The venue that she had her concert was not a HUGE venue and besides just because she is able to sale out a concert doesnt mean the GENERAL public still is interested in her musically. Do you comprehend that????? I never said that she doesnt have fans any more but the casual listener obviously isnt interested..

I dont see what your issue is with peoples opinion on The Dreams comments on Beyonce. Yes I understand people are entitiled to their opinion but you have to understand why people reacted the way they did to the comments which were really insulting to other performers who are better than Beyonce and of course Michael Jackson that was just my only issue with your post and of course that delusional opinion about Beyonce being vastly relevant in Europe.

Its seems you just lack to be open minded and base your opinion on OTHERS and because someone says something about another artist you validate it off of that which technially is just an opinion and really doesnt mean anything... I never said that Beyonce lost her fans or that she had 0 talent or that she isnt a big star we all get that but we also have some constructive criticism as well and have no problem in putting her so called great music or talent in its right perspective.

Now if you had said her sales were high in Europe or she had a certain number of song spins on the radio that is something different but your just basing your opinion on what others says "artists" as to validate her popularity there which to me is generic reasoning because it doesnt speak for the people that LIVE THERE or the music that plays there.

But whatever Im done here... think what you want to think... O and another thing Ive been listening and looking at performers all my life from a variety of different eras , Ive also talked to alot of people about music and the history of music, and talked to musicians, s etc...my opinion is just as relevant as yours and if you had any clue about music and real performers you would understand why people made the comments they did in this thread regarding Dreams stupid ass comments.

Like I said you are entitled to your opinion just like I am entitled to mine, and I never stated that my opinion is higher than nobody elses. The reason why I'm mentioning I'm a musician/music student is because we do these type of studies in university where we academically discuss different sides of music and people such as Beyonce are talked about in modern/contemporary music studies. You just made me laugh, you think somehow you know more music than I do? I do have a clue about music, that's why it's my passion and I spent hours and hours reading, studying, learning, writing and listening to old&new artists, composer, arrangers all the time.

It's my life so I sure enough know about performances and music.

Im not claiming to know more than you unlike you. Your claiming to know more than me just because your a musician which is a generic childish reason. Who the fuck cares? That doesnt make your opinion greater than mine. You sat up here and made a ton of generalizations. You dont have to be a music student to know alot about music or the history of it.

And if you spent hours and hours reading and studying you would understand why people had issue with The Dream comparing the great legendary non comparable Michael Jackson to overrated Beyonce.

you know that album she did with "crazy in love" on it, apparently got how many grammy's??? well i listened to a copy i got from the library, and i can quite honestly say with complete clarity, it was some piece of dog poo, i hated that album, what's worse is all the hype. and you know that song from the romeo and juliet soundtrack originally by desiree, well beyonce did a version...and i prefer desirees version. just saying, she does have something, but is lacking alot at the same time. single ladies another example, when i hears stan walker sing it on x factor or australian idol whatever, it sounded brilliant, but i can't get into beyonces version, has she written that song then maybe i would like her. so to me, the only song that i like is probably halo, then again...rihanna is so much more entertaining and her songs are wicked, does rihanna have a good voice no, but her songs have been all without exception relevant. beyonce has a nice voice, but she is not the diva she claims to be. and also she has no class.

To be honest, my comment was made in terms of the general "image" out there and less about Beyonce.

PREACH!!!!
