Alicia Keys' New Album Is 'Musical Cake,' Will Arrive for Summer

Alicia Keys is still beaming over the performance she showcased, alongside Stevie Wonder, at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards Sunday (May 20). The R&B songstress shared her excitement following the memorable moment in an interview with Downtown Julie Brown, in addition to giving some insight on the release of her fifth studio album, which serves as a follow-up to 2009's The Element of Freedom.

"I'm actually finishing baking up the most incredible musical cake that you've ever eaten in your life," the 31-year-old mother of Egypt and wife to Swizz Beatz reveals. "I'm really excited about that."

In 2011, fans were treated to the re-release of her seminal album, Songs in A Minor, but haven't heard much new music since. Last month, Keys debuted the song "Not Even a King" at an MTV Upfront event -- the effort could possibly show up on her forthcoming fifth LP.

"The music is coming within the next couple of months and so we're really putting all the final touches on it," she shares. "I am in like a whole other zone."

While she's focused on crafting a sonic opus, Keys is also multitasking with an array of projects. "I've really fallen in love with producing, film, television and Broadway," the singer discloses. "So I'm really developing a lot of projects like that and I'm just in love."

This. After she released the "Diary" album, which I liked, I lost interest in her.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I am sick to death of all these poser, all flash-no substance, bullshiting, arrogant "nobody has EVER heard music like mine EVER",whackjobs coming out of the woodwork to whore their

new product.

You ain't re-invented no wheel, matter of fact you don't even have much of a range vocally.

Just shut your airbrushed faces and let the music do the talking.

Lady Ga Ga,D'Angelo,Alicia etc...bunch of bores with no track records to speak of acting like

they are Gods great gift to music.

Next.

I lost interest after Diary, thought she became redundant. I liked that first single from her 4th album and the Beyonce duet though.

When Alicia first came out they sold her as the antidote to Britney et al that was popular at the time.

She's still living off that reputation.

She's better than most.

I was not into her at first. She was another pretty r&b artist, but was disguised in the form of a "genius pianist" and acted so special for playing Fur Elise at the MTV Awards though she was good. I haven't played piano properly in so long, but remember how to play that one really well too, considering it was originally written for piano beginners before becoming a Grade 3 unit piece for the RCM

Same here. The Diary was the last good album she put out. After that, all her jams started sounding the same. I like her but her music is boring to me.

Diary is definitely her masterpiece. I haven't really liked anything since except maybe

a couple of songs. Teenage Love Affair is one of them.

You sound bitter, like you wanted to be a star and couldn't hack it so now you slam them in your spare time.

Look, no one's forcing you to read any of this shit or keep up with them. Really you're just going out of your way to exasperate yourself. And that's fucking stupid.

Nah, keep in mind his last album wasn't even released outside of Europe. Most of us probably wish that he would get out there and really whore his new product. lol

But shit like, "Music by real musicians," reeks of bullshitting and arrogance to me, although he could use some work on the whoring. lol

I used to love, no LOVE Alicia. Her last album bored the crap outta me. I never thought in a million years I would be on a forum saying anything bad about her. Heck, I even named one of my favorite guitars after her.....

Where is that lovely girl that gave us "Butterflies"??

Well, I can agree with you there. I don't know how he reconciles that dreadful "sampler set" that he plays with "real music by real musicians." Darn it, we want to hear the full songs played by an actual band, not a thirty second bit where he just sings over the studio take!

No shade, but "As I Am" is an awesome album. I enjoyed about half of Diary. Never got into that first record. But "As I Am" is the bomb.com.

I'll bet cash money 1/2 of the songs will be someone else's work either sampled or redone.
