I am sick to death of all these poser, all flash-no substance, bullshiting, arrogant "nobody has EVER heard music like mine EVER",whackjobs coming out of the woodwork to whore their

new product.

You ain't re-invented no wheel, matter of fact you don't even have much of a range vocally.

Just shut your airbrushed faces and let the music do the talking.

Lady Ga Ga,D'Angelo,Alicia etc...bunch of bores with no track records to speak of acting like

they are Gods great gift to music.

Next.

You sound bitter, like you wanted to be a star and couldn't hack it so now you slam them in your spare time.

Look, no one's forcing you to read any of this shit or keep up with them. Really you're just going out of your way to exasperate yourself. And that's fucking stupid.

You don't know anything about me and if you did I would have handed you your balls by now.

Can you tell us how you feel? biggrin Looking foward to the CD. The last one left me wanting. The CD I Am Is my favorite though.

On a sidenote, how is that Sananda Maitreya album ? I've been hesitating for years, about buying it. It's the only one of his that i don't have.

Not as good as Wild Card, but not bad. He sounds great, but the production is not that good. I'm a big fan too.

I never quite got why the org acts like we are not supposed to like Alicia. I like Her first 2 albums... As I Am was decent...

But the shit people say on her act like we are not SUPPOSED to like her cause she is not the 2nd coming of so and so because her playing is not as good as so & so or her voice isn't as good as so & so.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

For most people I think it is just a backlash against the ridiculous hype that surrounds her. She is not the reincarantion of all of the great soul music of the late sixties/early seventies. She is just a modern pop/r & b star. By building her into something more the media/record company just created unrealistic expectations that are impossible for her to meet.

I have her first two albums but haven't been able to get into anything she's done since then... Was that music and image simply due to a phoney facaade created by Clive Davis...

I was afraid that might be the case, with his production. Thanks.

I must admit that I was disappointed when I found out that one of my favorite piano riffs from her last album (Like the Sea) was lifted from Debussy.

I'm still in love with her (and her first TWO albums), but when baby girl tries to go all "deep/profound/philosophical" in interviews, I just wish she would shut.the.fuck.up. I just can't get into her music like I used to.

As others have said, I haven't listened to Alicia since 'Diary'. They play her 'New York' song all the time during Knick games - drives me up the fucking wall.

I might give this new one a try. Hoping not to be bored.

Are you talking about that track with Jay-Z?

Know why nobody writes their own songs and sings without autotune anymore? Because even when they do people bitch about it. She may not be the second coming of Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding in one body, but Alicia Key oozes skill and talent, be happy about that.

Sorta off topic: Well i'm cool with sampling (read some threads on here where people clearly are not teeheehee), but when i found out it was sample, i heard it in an airport bathroom and i was like "are they playing Alicia in airports now???" Only to find it was a classical joint. Now, i am not a big classical buff, but on my way home i was thinking, bet 5 this is Debussy....bet 5 this is Debussy. Looked it up, and lo and behold, it's"Arabeqsue somethin somethin" by Debussy. i've said before, Debussy's music had hints of soul in it that i'm surprised no one outside of classical music has noticed. If someone was to ask me about classical music i like, he's the only composer for me. i mean the fact that Claire De Lune was slid into the end of Janelle Monae's "Say You'll Go" so perfectly, alludes to the slight soulfulness of his compositions.

About Alicia, one of the reasons i joined was because it was nice to see people who felt like i did about Alicia. i alwaaaaays thought she was OVERHYPED, but i also in time did appreciate some growth she had in some areas. i hold the same thoughts as many sites that Diary of Alicia Keys was my favorite and that her debut was overhyped. After Diary, i thought she sounded pop-washed so i was like rolleyes ESPECIALLY because i COULD NOTTTT for the life of me understand why "No One" was such a hit. But about a year later, i re-listened to As I Am, and though some songs still sound like cross-over attempts, i could see why it was highly appreciated. And she DID have some killer songs on that album (Lesson Learned, Thing About Love, Superwoman, Teenage Love Affair (JackBlack killed production on that). But i still enjoyed Diary more. (And Element of Freedom was garbage, i don't know HOW people say that's her best album. Only thing i liked on that album is that cool ass joint "This Bed".)

Overall, i would like to see her keep challenging herself musically and vocally. And i would like her stans to stop focusing on her light-skinndedness, her hips, and acting like she's musical and moral perfection, and focus on the ART FIRST.
