Nile Rodgers: "I Know That I'm Dying" PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!
POSTED 13 HOURS AGO:
Yesterday was extremely difficult. I don't go into too much detail but my housekeeper said, "You seem like you're a little delirious." I responded, "I don't feel that bad." The truth is it was that bad. I'm just awake because I can't sleep longer than a few hours EVER - but I'm going to stay in bed and try and relax and sleep a bit more. TODAY IS BEAUTIFUL! Love always, -N

I've slept more in the past few days than I can ever remember. I've been very sick and I've had to marshal my strength for the extensive travel and concerts. Even with all the rest I got progressively worse. On the drive home from the airport today I felt so sick that I couldn't help but think "I Know That I'm Dying." I tried to think positively - but the phrase "I Know That I'm Dying" kept repeating in my head.
By the time I got home I was really sick. I had a racing pulse, shallow breath, and a fever of almost 104 degrees Fahrenheit. My housekeeper rushed me to the hospital. In the short trip to the emergency room my condition worsened. I was semi-delirious, could barely walk and was unstable, and was very lightheaded. It was at that moment I started forcing myself to repeat "I Know That I'm going to live."
They thoroughly tested me for everything possible because my vital signs had them extremely concerned, especially with my heart. They looked for a possible blood clot because they knew I'd been flying a lot. When they said that, I thought about the loss of Heavy D a few weeks ago. They started medicating me in this very professional environment - and the mantra "I Know That I'm going to live" got louder in my head.
After many hours of testing they finally came into the treatment room and said, "Mister Rodgers, you were very sick and your body did exactly what it was supposed to do - fight the infection." I was discharged around midnight and reflected on my two different states of mind during this traumatic day - "I Know That I'm going to live" and "I Know That I'm Dying."

Despite our best efforts to put on a strong face and smile, the fact is we are frail beings who can only take so much. The prospect of Nile passing away is tough to bear but if he's at peace with it, I am too. Fight till the end Mr. Rodgers. Jeux Sans Frontiers

No matter what happens, though, Nile Rodgers will always remain one of the greatest. But life is real short, you're here today and gone tomorrow. Even legends go so let's be thankful.

PLEASE...make it stop! This is just too much of an avalanche... Makes you seriously think about your own health. Too many passing away too soon. Seriously, I am going to give up my smoking addiction this week...with the electronic non-tobacco cigs... I can't do this to my kid. What a reality check... I really mean it. Even though my son is in his twenties, he still needs a parent who is going to be around for a long time--which I plan on doing. If my brother, who has smoked since he was fourteen years old, gave it up last year, so can I. In the end, it ain't just about you... Thanks for the support! Thank you so much, for real. All these deaths of my musical idols combined with recent deaths in the family from cancer definitely has put me in check. Time to start dealing with what I and a lot of people ignore... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Hey, did you guys read his book?

I bought his book and I'm getting ready to read it now...after finals for a degree program. I'm really interested in what Niles has to say.... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I was really interested in the book after I saw a video of Nile telling a few stories at Red Bull Music Academy

Purple Thunder, my mom gave up smoking after 30 plus years. You CAN do it. Godspeed. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I read it this year, great read--he's a great storyteller. It's a good companion piece to the other Chic book by Daryl Easlea.
Nile talks about his battle with cancer near the end of the book...I wish him continued strength......

Thank you so much. I have quit for periods of time...but now it is past time that I quit, for real. My only addiction, but it is a BITCH of one. I'm glad your mom quit. If she can do it, so can I! This book came out a few years back. Nile's book is more about his entire experience inthe music biz, while this one focuses just on the band itself ...the two books together give you a nice overview of Chic... I read it. Great read! But there are so many great/funny stories I've heard Nile tell over the years about the people/artists he's worked with that are either very briefly touched on or not mentioned at all in the book. I understand the need to present an uncluttered book that could be enjoyed by the general public and those not particularly interested in his music per se. But as a hardcore CHIC fan, I wish Nile would release a limited edition 'extended version' or 'director's cut' (if you will) of his book for us Chic freaks to geek out on. That would be .

It's definitely a good read if you're able to get a copy. For me the story around the making of Diana Ross's Chic-produced album alone is worth the price.

I've been trying those in the last few months, mainly so I can smoke at my desk at work without having to go outside so much. I've only bought the disposable ones though and the first few puffs are great but after that, each puff seems to be weaker and weaker and I still eventually end up having to go outside and get a real cigarette. They don't seem to be working for me but I knew a few people who have been able to completely convert over to them. I guess it must have to do with how strong your addiction is. Maybe it will work for you. Good luck. Andy is a four letter word.

No, that's pretty characteristic of the disposables. Get a better model.
