Five years ago when lime-wire was around, I downloaded some of her recordings just for kicks. She had some interesting concepts and works to say the least, too bad she doesn't get wide recognition. Its similar to Laurie Anderson, her style is a bit too bizarre for mainstream tastes.

Alice Shields was also doing this eletronic sounds and tape loops thing during that time.

Delia Derbyshire is also responsible for the ambient synth-soundscape that opens "Eye No" on the Lovesexy album.

She is uncredited on the liner notes.

It wasn't that common to credit samples in the 1980s, though. It has been said that the Paul's Boutique album is really what got the attention of copyright holders.

Prince didn't "sample" Delia Derbyshire,he lifted a whole minute and a half of one of her compositions and used it to open his LoveSexy album.

Imagine if someone took the first minute and a half of,let's say,"1999" and used it on their album,untouched.

Well, Rick James sued MC Hammer, but Prince didn't. The length doesn't matter though, it's still considered a sample. Michael Jackson was sued about the classical recording (almost 2 minutes long) at the beginning of Will You Be There, which wasn't originally credited and used without permission.
