Please.

Stop with that nonsense.

Some of yall think that these jokers who can ape a Prince song style are even in that echeleon of Prince? ( I see you D'Angelo, Beck, Timberlake etc sympathizers...).

It takes more than pale imitators/imitations.

Prince is the (purple) rock. Only a few understand this but 95% know it inside but its not conscious.

Hi Welcome to the Org. Yep there are some similarities between the two, but I wouldn't go so far as calling Beck the 'white Prince'.

For one thing, I don't really see why we need to segment people into colours. Music's supposed to transcend those barriers, so I'm not overly sure why we feel the need to go pigeonholing, just so we can attach a label.

That being said, I really liked Beck, saw him in concert a while back and he put on a good show.

Just remember you're on a Prince obsessed forum though (and the most Prince obsessed part of the forum), where the majority of posters class music non-prince as associated artists. You might get a better response discussing Beck in the non Prince forum instead smile

blah blah blah

well, in recent years Beck certainly became the one who made the more interesting

music. i love them both a lot.

beck also produces albums and songs for others. notably the charlotte gainsbourg

collaborations were very good and of high standard.

he also had his own record club going on for a while where he would go into a studio

with a band (notably some famous guests) and cut an entire covers album in a day.

no rehearsals, no overdubs, just cut it. they did stuff like velvet underground albums

and inxs' kick etc. very interesting stuff.

basically every album he's released on his own is good to amazing. i find it very hard

to find fault with his album releases. there's always a lot going on, the songs are very

well crafted and his sound is interesting and diverse.

people keep saying beck is a prince wannabe simply because he did one song on one

album that sounded like prince (debrah) when beck does so much more and is master

in his own field. he can't touch prince's prime material, fcuz not, very few can. but as

far as the zeitgeist of now goes, beck has had his finger on the pulse and far beyond

it for more than a decade now, where prince seems to be a bit lost.

i look forward to them both releasing new albums this year (hope so) but i just know

that if beck releases another studio album that it will keep me interested for at least

the best part of a year.

cool

Prince has done several Sea Change songs peppered throughout his career. I Love You But Dont Trust You, Wherever You Go, SISIA, How Come You Dont Call Me, Wally, Comeback, Truth cd etc. His Sea Change material has been scattered and maybe not as a complete one set deal but thats probably due to Prince being a corporation where he has to have some of everything to keep the Prince machine (workers, staff etc) running. He has to kitchen sink it.vAnd yes its like you said, Beck never did a Purple Rain akin to Prince stating that U2 and them can't do Housequake material. You can argue that beck can do some out there material but not at the level Prince did his Housequakes or Computer Blues..Prince can Sea Change at the drop of a panty..errr hat rather.

He has even made Sea Change type material of songs for proper albums at the ready but has not relased them.

Overall, Prince has been Sea Chang-ing way before Beck ever got his little skateboard poplockin kid heart broke.

Beck is an awesome artist (on record and live) and there are some similarities, just like there are similarities when it comes to Prince and artists that influenced Prince. To call Beck a Prince wannabe is just ridiculous disbelief. Princefams disbelief....

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Well, they are both extremely prolific. Check out Willie's discography, since 1978 he has pretty much gone toe to toe with Prince as far as volume is concerned.
