Still adore that recording, what a fabulous voice.

Any other versions display the song for the wretched monstrosity that it is - all the worst tendencies of its era jam-packed into one bloviating musical dung heap.*

But Donna made me love it... that she did. I bow to the Diva Summer.

*yes yes, just my opinion and not worth two plugged nickels glued together or sawed in half

nod I also hate how in the original or versions based on it, the climax comes out of nowhere and sounds like the writer himself got bored with the song and wanted to change it.

She has always been "The Voice" to me and probably always will be. A song about a literal cake or a figurative meaning. It doesn't matter. It sounds awesome!smile

Completely agree with you.

How old is she now?

She's taken care of her talent very well and still can deliver her old powerful songs.

Hail The QUEEN!

worship bow worship bowworship bow worship bow

Still waiying for those 2 albums she promised years ago...

I have always loved her voice and this is one of her finest moments, her voice the sweeping arrangements and the way she holds those notes. Wow this is some of the finest soulful disco diva art around.

Aardvark15, love your sig too man

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Definetly agree, there's a reason why Donna's the queen of disco. Also I don't see much of a reason to love my signature lol

co-sign. this is absolutely my favorite song of hers for the reasons you cite. there are many people who do remakes of songs, and you think, why did they bother? donna took a somewhat maudlin, cloying song and took it to a whole other level that i don't think anyone would have thought possible.

r.i.p donna

This lady could record an extremely long jam that never sounded repetitive.

That breakdown fade out where only the bass remains and then the song gradually works it's way back in is hot!

I remember when I first heard it and was sad because I thought the song was fading out and couldn't believe that it wasn't even halfway over. sad I can't believe she's gone

I remember when my son was playing trumpet in the high school band and he was practising the MacArthur Park Suite. I asked him if he had ever heard the lyrics to it and he said no. So, I went out searching for Donna's version of the song and when he heard it, he was blown away. And, I still am now... Gonna miss her voice like crazy... These lyrics from MacArthur Park are really applicable today:

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one.

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky.
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why...
