No one for Ray?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Peter Gabriel is obviously more "important."

However, if I'm being honest, 9 times out of 10, I'd rather hear some good old-fashioned Phil Collins shlock than some pretentious, self-important Peter Gabriel.

I love both of their songwriting but Phil Collins voice grates on me, In no small part due to the fact my Dad sounds EXACTLY like him when he sings. much prefer Peters singing. And Solisbury Hill is the best song of either solo career imo.

I don't know about you all, but I've always loved "Sussido" since I was a kid when it came out. As corny as the song is, it's just, well, fun. lol

And let's not forget this gem with Philip Bailey:

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It depends on my mood and what I am drinking at the time. If I just want to take it easy, I will listen to Phil. If I want to take a mind trip then, Peter.

Gabriel sounds constipated to me all the time, and like he's trying like hell to do his best 'soul artist' impersonation and he's always failing.

Phil has a great voice, there's nothing nasally about it. I love the way he used to always bellow his lyrics like he was enraged or like his nuts were on fire lol . Gabriel doesn't even have the pipes to do something like that.

Yeah, nasally is probably the wrong word to describe Phil... more like a voice with no bottom end, depth or fullness. Sort of like a surround system with the subwoofer turned off!!!

Phil has more upper range than Peter because he is a little guy with a little, mouse like voice. Pete can't bellow lyrics like his nuts are on fire just like Phil can't sound deep and rich in his lower range.

But let me emphasize that I AM a Phil Collins fan... I have immense respect for this guy. I don't want it to sound like I dislike him or his singing---Trick Of The Tail is wonderful (ENTANGLED = WOW). I have all of his solo records and find most of them enjoyable. Elite songwriter and musician with one of the most distinctive voices in rock. Much like Prince, whose non-falsetto normal chest voice took a while for me to like initially...

But that Peter Gabriel, Seal, Sting (in his lower range) "hoarse", deep, raspy sort of voice is something that I've always been a huge fan of.

I'm not a huge fan of either, but I like them both well enough.
