I love Quik's music, but major pot smokage and paranoia go hand in hand. He said in an interview that I saw that he beat her cuz she tried to get him to hook up bootleg cable and he wouldn't...because that's illegal! He says she tried to go all gangsta on his ass and he snapped...and pistol whupped her ass. Then again, he claims she's the one who got him his 1st gun, slangin' and all that mess.
Love his sounds and gorg hair, but that cat ain't playing w/ a full deck.

About the Bloods, I think Quik was of the gen that signed the Peace Treaty, even if he didn't personally do so. On a practical level, many of the people he'd be working w/ were from the Crips (ehem Snoop) or other affliations. He's stated that his reputation has frightened off some peeps he wanted to work w/, so it's still biting him on the ass.
I don't think he was a serious gangbanger, but more apart of it to protect his own hide. He said he had to go thru Crip terrirory everyday for school (he lived in Bloodville), so sadly I can see why he joined up.

I don't care about details, and it's none of my business, I just hope that whatever is going on with DeBarge gets cleared up immediately and that we don't lose him because it's not everyday that someone with that kind of vocal talent comes along.

You thought of it cuz that shit was really real then. Quik was on the music scene before the Peace Treaty and walked a thin line. Not all of these cats were "studio gangstas" some were the real McCoy...Quik was one of them. Unlike others (usually the fake kind) Quik has kept to the underground of the scene and has never done much talking about his past. That probably explains why he's still alive, viewed w/ mad respect, and still putting out great stuff.

Hey there Brooksie Thanks for the background story on Quik. Don't know much about him but I liked a couple of his songs.
As for El, I don't care who had to talk him into rehab, I just hope he gets/is getting the help that he needs to stay off narcotics.
