El Debarge: 50 Cent & Babyface Saved Him From Relapse El Debarge is famous for eighties hits such as “I Like It” and “All This Love.” Unfortunately, what’s equally famous is the singer’s drug addiction and numerous arrests for various drug-related charges. The 50-year-old music veteran made a comeback in 2010 with the album 'Second Chance,' and was nominated for two Grammy’s, but shortly after, news surfaced that Debarge entered rehab yet again just days before kicking off his tour. Little did fans know that rapper 50 Cent and R&B entrepreneur Babyface had been the ones to lend a helping hand to the troubled star. In a recent radio interview with Atlanta’s V103 radio station, Debarge candidly tells of their intervention. He explains, “I started getting these thoughts, and I called 50 cent up, and I said, ‘You gotta help me…I’m already on my way to doing something wrong.’ So 50 came like five cars deep, picked me up right from where I was, got me outta there, they met up with Babyface, they took me into Interscope, we all had a meeting, and they said, ‘Man why don’t you just go to rehab.’” He reassures he never physically went back to the narcotics, but that the relapse was in his mind, saying, “You have to get your mind right, and you have to have the tools to that you need to stay in recovery.” DeBarge also spoke about how he saw Whitney Houston a few days before her untimely passing, and briefly planned on working together. “She said ‘I need you, I wanna finish my album, I want you to sing with me…’ I was just happy that she embraced me like that, and I wanted to do something, but the next thing I know, she was gone,” he adds. Hopefully that meeting with Whitney Houston shortly before her passing will help him as a reminder to stay on the right track. This is quite interesting...

What are you thinking Timmy?

Dude said Fiddy helped him. I'm guessing I can believe that because I heard of how Fiddy treats his folks at G-Unit but I thought that was fascinating.

So wait a minute, 50 is exempt from doing any good deeds?

I can believe maybe that 50 dropped him off at rehab...but the part about El not actually doing drugs is in doubt... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Nah I'm just saying it was fascinating. I wasn't dogging him.

Remember that both 50 Cent and 'Face collaborated on 2010's Second Chance as well.

That's actually what I was trying to say. Like Fiddy and Face helping him is a nice gesture but then he says "I ain't went back on that stuff literally" then like why were you busted for crack not too long ago mane? I think if someone like Fiddy would help him, keep him in that mansion and any attempt to get back to crack, just put money in his face to not do it.

I wonder if this recently happened (the intervention)? I know someone that saw him at the Kelly Price Grammy Party (the same party Whitey attended) and they say he was high as a kite there. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Honest mistake then, it kinda seemed to me like you guys did. Ah well, moving on,,,,

Nope. This intervention/rehab is old, but the interview is new. El's not been off of performing for 8 weeks this whole year. That would have been 2011 IIRC.

I think he's back on the stuff because last concert review I read of his it sounds like he was fibbing throughout his set and that was before his bust, that ended up being turned in his favor because there wasn't too many evidence to suggest El had bought it and that it was probably from someone else.

I've seen two or three concerts of his on YT from the beginning of this year and naw man...naw. Tho he's no longer no-showing, he's relying on others to take up the slack. Namely DJ Quik and Chico, but even Marty's been put onstage before HIS arrest. Marty's got a lovely falsetto BTW. We know how clean all of those cats are, right?
As for El, he's about as clean as Keef Richards. I'm pragmatic about this.. if he shuts up about it and just performs well, the better for him.
Mystical just got popped agan for violence against women....guess who he just worked w/? Eldra and Quik. [Edited 5/14/12 16:22pm]

Thank you.
Let me say also...
When El was arrested and released a couple of weeks ago on suspicion of possession with the intent to sale, he got lucky. What a coincidence, some crack was found nearby in the underground car garage El and his friend were seen walking into and were asked to exit by the police. Addiction and lying are cohabitors.

I read he beat up his sister once and he got arrested for it.

One of these days El's gonna really fuck up.

Now that you've mentioned it, he recorded a VERY venomous diss track about her in his last album. Talked all kinds of trash about her son too. I'm curious as to what led to all this though.

He was arrested and went to prison.

I guess Whitney's passing wasn't sobering enough for him...except for his remark that he wanted to "do something" for her... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

What were they gonna do anyway? I doubt it would be about the album. As unfortunate for me to say after what happened to Whitney.

“I snapped and blacked out,” he explained. “My schizophrenic sisterhad convinced her sons to extort $2 million from me or they were going to kidnap and kill my children. I love my kids. It went too far.”

That's crazy right there. I wonder if Quik is still actually part of the Bloods. His Wiki page make it seem like he still in it.

I really don't think he can get out... once you are in it is, til death due you part.
Maybe he's "inactive."
