I knew this was coming...

Wasn't there an Essential compilation that was prepared for released right before her death? Nice cover though. confused

Any more information on this? There was already an album with this title released a few years ago.. http://www.allmusic.com/album/r1241316 . I wonder if this will just be a re-release, or a brand new compilation?

Same thing I'm thinking. I'm starting to believe that the guys at RCA are just re-releasing the previous Ultimate Collection with this new cover, in light of Whitney's passing.

If it isn't the same thing my guess is that it will include bigger U.S hits not on the original like All The Man That I Need and Heartbreak Hotel. Great cover though.

Maybe it will include other songs (post-2000). They'll probably make it a double disc compilation. No other information has surfaced about this one though, just the album cover and the label Arista/RCA/Sony, 2012. eek

I think the best Whitney compilation would be this:

Disc 1:

1. You Give Good Love

2. Saving All My Love For You

3. Greatest Love Of All

4. How Will I Know

5. I Wanna Dance With Somebody

6. So Emotional

7. Didn't We Almost Have It All

8. Where Do Broken Hearts Go

9. One Moment In Time

10. Love Will Save The Day

11. Star Spangeled Banner

12. I'm Your Baby Tonight (Remix)

13. All The Man That I Need

14. Miracle

15. I Belong To You

16. My Name Is Not Susan

Disc 2:

1. I Will Always Love You

2. I Have Nothing

3. Run To You

4. I'm Every Woman

5. Queen Of The Night (Remix)

6. I Will Always Love You (Dance Remix)

7. Exhale

8. Count On Me

9. I Believe In You And Me

10. When You Believe

11 Heartbreak Hotel

12. It's Not Right But It's Okay

13. My Love Is Your Love

14. I Learned From The Best

15. Watchulookinat

16. One Of Those Days

17. Million Dollar Bill

18. I Look To You

Wasn't 'The Ultimate Collection' a U.K. release back in 07 or 08? It had a pretty high debut for a GH package, it went to number 3 over there.

Anyways it's probably just another re-release of the same shit we've been getting since 2000.

Hopefully. I only own two Whitney albums (Whitney Houston and The Bodyguard), I'm not a huge fan, but there's some other songs I like, so a good hits compilation would be nice... but if it doesn't have "One Of Those Days" and "I Look To You" (two of my favorite songs), then I won't be buying it.

lol True. I just hope this is something worthy. I only have Whitney Houston and My Love Is Your Love. Never was a huge Whitney fan, but I do know that Whitney was solely a singles artist and her catalog has never really been properly anthologized.

Here would be my ideal compilation:

  1. The Greatest Love Of All
  2. How Will I Know?
  3. So Emotional
  4. I Wanna Dance With Somebody
  5. I'm Every Woman
  6. I Will Always Love You
  7. I Have Nothing
  8. Something In Common (with Bobby Brown)
  9. All The Man That I Need
  10. When You Believe (with Mariah Carey)
  11. My Love Is Your Love
  12. Heartbreak Hotel
  13. It's Not Right But It's Okay
  14. One Of Those Days
  15. Love That Man
  16. Million Dollar Bill
  17. I Look To You
  18. A Song For You

^ Not sure if all of that will fit on one CD. If not, then you can lose tracks 5,7 and 18. If there's any extra space, then add in "Whatchulookinat".. Or stretch it to two CDs using whatever additional songs you want..

Edit: Actually, I'd like it stretched to a double album, using all the extended mixes (I Wanna Dance With Somebody, So Emotional, One Of Those Days, etc..) + "Didn't We Almost Have It All" and "Whatchulookinat".

For a Whitney fan, sure. For casuals, no. I've listened to most of her albums the whole way through, and I don't really like more than 3-4 songs on any of them. I think maybe Whitney might be essential even for casual fans.. (which, oddly, I don't own yet)

Give me a definitive 2-CD compilation of her best work, singles, and rarities, and I'll be good. lol Hopefully this Ultimate Collection will cover her entire career, but honestly, I won't be surprised if it's just a straight re-release of the one from 2007.

She needs an updated 2 disc set for the states, with out remixes of the dance tracks, so I support this. If done correctly this could be as fabulous as Number Ones and Celebration.

THIS! nod As for her albums, I will say that her first two albums, The Preacher's Wife and My Love Is Your Love are totally listenable straight through. As for her soundtrack work, her cuts on The Bodyguard Soundtrack and Waiting To Exhale Soundtack are irresistible by themselves of course. I am interested in getting into I'm Your Baby Tonight as that is the only one I haven't gotten into yet.

I agree with this, too. That's why I didn't buy 'Greatest Hits'.. I don't like remixes or alternate versions (unless it's the original extended mixes, which I'd love to have)

I'm the same way. I do find some good cuts on I'm Your Baby Tonight, Just Whitney (Her weakest album, just saying), and I Look To You. The problem with IYBT is that so many tracks sound a lot alike.

I was one of those folks who got "bamboozled" with that The Greatest Hits compilation from 2000. Just an utter disappointment and a quick cash-in from Arista to celebrate her 15-year career in the industry, at that time. That 'remix disc' wasn't horrendous, but it was a bit of a waste. She deserves better.

So many choices, I have no clue where to start.

I need to consult with Vainandy on this.
