Watched him and Big Boi act in Idlewild. While 3 Stacks takes all of these acting lessons and whatnot. Big Boi proved to be a natural.

I dont think Andre can pull it off. They need to get a real actor and leave the rappers at home.

well,at least now we know why Andre has been laying low for awhile. He's probably been prepping himself for this role (acting classes...learning guitar...watching Jimi Hendrix concert footage, etc).

I dunno, Dre is a decent actor, (I'm one of the few who actualy liked Idlewild), I'm not sure if he's up to this iconic role though. Lenny and Prince's acting skills ain't that great either.

Dre may surprise us but there are real actors who would probably be better suited for this role. What about...

Mike Ealy

Hill Harper

Gary Dourdan

Chiwetel Ejiofor

Especially the last two.

I dug Idlewild as well..............

Lenny is too pretty, not dark skinned enough. Jimi was talented, but he was a bucket of chicken, ugly mofo..lol. Andre fits the bill.

Prince could overdub the guitar. :please:

That's the first time I've ever read someone say Jimi was ugly. Lenny has aged out of the role..Trying to see him act as Jimi wouldn't work.

I'm still gonna pass on this film. If Jimi's estate didn't approve this film for rights and music then there's no movie. The film needs to start in Seattle and end in London.

Or if Prince was twenty years younger, I think he could pull it.

Back in 1988,during the Lovesexy era, there were rumors that Prince was being considered for the role of Jimi Hendrix in a movie.Eddie Murphy was also mentioned as a possibility.

I see Hendrix in Prince more than I do Little Richard. I think it would have been an epic to see him play him.

Jimi (gulp) "ugly"....naw son! eek

I ain't happy about this...at all. The last time someone tried in the early 00s was a disaster. If you want a movie about Jimi, just get the 1973 biopic starring the best actor for the role...Jimi himself.

That said, the only actor-musician I'da cast is Jimi is also dead...Tupac. He's the only one I think had the charisma and swagga to pull it off. No gonna happen tho...

Can he act though? well enough to hold a lead role?

That's my worry.

He was very green I thought in the movie Revolver.. hopefully he's taken more acting classes. It'd be a shame to fuck up this movie with bad acting.

Change it one more time..

What has Lenny ever been in? How is he not a "non-acting musician?" H

Lenny seems to have a more natural talent at acting than does Andre... he was in Precious and Hunger Games and did great in both.

Change it one more time..

I don't see anything wrong in suggesting a person mostly associated with music to perform the lead role. Diana Ross, for example, received much acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for her lead in 'Lady Sings The Blues' ... so why not???? Yes, Diana should play Jimi.

The film ain't gonna happen, folks. Read this:

Jimi Hendrix's Estate Speaks Out Against Biopic eek

May 10, 2012

Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000 as the legendary guitarist could happen someday -- but today is not that day. On Thursday (May 10), Experience Hendrix, LLC issued a statement denying reports from earlier this week that a new film had been greenlit and was in preproduction.

"Various media outlets have recently published accounts that indicate a feature length Jimi Hendrix biographical film is nearing production," reads the statement. "Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation."

The rumored project was said to be titled All Is By My Side, and focus on Hendrix's time in England while recording "Are You Experienced?" First-time director John Ridley was reportedly attached to the project.

The six-week shoot in Ireland for the film will apparently not happen, but Hendrix's estate did not definitively close the door on a future biopic, starring Andre 3000 or another actor. "Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a "biopic" in the future," continues the statement, "though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions."

I think so; but he's another musician wannabe actor who does not have the ability to

convincingly pull off playing Jimi Hendrix.

This is a role that needs an actor, not a musician wanting to do acting.

Agreed but he was decent in Idlewild.

Idlewild was saved by the music and the lovely Paula Patton. I loved it when I first saw it but then saw it again, during morning hours, and it wasn't all that.

nod Lenny would have been good even though he can't act but at least he can play a mean guitar.

I think Andre just got this role cuz he's still hot. I just wonder what they're going to do about that bamma accent he has.
