Andre 3000 to play Jimi Hendrix in biopic

Andre 3000 has landed the role of a lifetime. The Outkast star is set to play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming biopic, which is set to be filmed in Ireland.

The biopic, titled "All Is By My Side," will depict Hendrix's time in England in the 1960s when he recorded his debut album "Are You Experienced."

The film, to be directed by "Three Kings" writer John Ridley, will also document Hendrix's early years playing in small New York clubs before he moved to London to begin recording with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

It is believed Ireland will fill in for locations the guitarist visited in the British capital. According to the Irish Film and Television Network, production is scheduled to begin next month.

I do not like this casting at all. I like Ice Cold as an emcee (he's probably

one of the more innovative rappers around now) but he's hardly the

chops to pull this off - he mangled his role in that goofy Will Ferrell basket

ball flick and he "meh-ed" his way through Idlewild.

Bad move.

Didn't Lenny Kravitz want this role? I heard his name mentioned as someone they were considering.

I think so; but he's another musician wannabe actor who does not have the ability to

convincingly pull off playing Jimi Hendrix.

This is a role that needs an actor, not a musician wanting to do acting.

This movie should have been done 25 years ago with Larry Fishburne in the lead role. Otherwise, there are a lot of good black actors out there who could do justice to the role. I don't doubt Dre3K has some acting skills but tapping MCs to play big roles can only go so far.

I think he's a decent actor. Just as long as he doesn't cover Jimi's music I'd watch it

Real Actor needs to play this role.. I am so tired of Hollywood getting these no acting musicians to play these ACTING roles that need serious actors....

Not only that looks, presence, demeanor etc all need to be taken into consideration when they do these bio pics... I like Andre as an artist but he looks NOTHING like Jimi..

Lenny Kravitz looks more like Jimi and he can act. Why didnt they choose him for this????

Back in 1988,during the Lovesexy era,there were rumors that Prince was being considered for the role of Jimi Hendrix in a movie.Eddie Murphy was also mentioned as a possibility.

But those were SERIOUS ACTORS/ACTRESSES their acting was CONVINCING enough for audiences to look past the physical... The roles Andre have played have not been serious at all. Portraying someone on screen is completely different. If the talent isnt there let alone the physical appearance then you can basically forget it!

What has Lenny ever been in? How is he not a "non-acting musician?" He looks nothing like Jimi. Dre is more believable falling out of bed in the morning.

Can he even act?

See reply #24. I also agree with Genesia. Andre 3000 resembles Jimmy more

so than Lenny.

I think this is either going to be really good, or really bad, no in-between.

I dunno, Dre is a decent actor, (I'm one of the few who actualy liked Idlewild), I'm not sure if he's up to this iconic role though. Lenny and Prince's acting skills ain't that great either.

Dre may surprise us but there are real actors who would probably be better suited for this role. What about...

Thats what Im saying other things need to be taken into consideration besides looks and a couple of roles. There are plenty of more serious actors that could play Hendrix and could really make a great bio pic it seems Hollywood is just lazy and just cares about making money off of people who are in it, Its exactly kinda sad because Hendrix deserves a good bio pic..

But then again look what they did to Etta James and Michael Jackson???
