Next week: carrie 295k Norah 100k

ARRIE ON, UNDERWOOD’S COMING
19/RCA Nashville Star Set to Debut #1, Now 42, Norah Jones, B.o.B Also on Tap

May 2, 2012

Carrie Underwood’s poised for a #1 debut. Her new 19/RCA Nashville album, Blown Away, will top next week’s chart with estimates of between 275-295k, according to one-day sales reports from retailers busy packing their bags for next week’s NARM convention in L.A.

It’s the former American Idol winner’s fourth studio album and first since 2009’s Play On, which sold 318k on its debut Nov. 3 of that year on the way to a total over 2 million.

Underwood performed her iconic Idol cover of Heart’s “Alone” last night as part of a 10-song set for Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio in N.Y.C.

Capitol/EMI’s Now 42, a series surprisingly still showing some sales power, will debut with 95-100k.

Blue Note/EMI Grammy winner Norah Jones’ Danger Mouse-produced Little Broken Hearts, which represents a significant stylistic departure, is on target for 90-100k. It’s her first album since 2009’s The Fall, which sold 181k its first week in Nov.

Grand Hustle/Atlantic rapper B.o.B’s sophomore album, Strange Clouds, is set for 70-80k in first-week sales.

Marilyn Manson’s new album for Cooking Vinyl/Downtown, Born Villain, looks to sell 35-40k. It’s his first album in three years since leaving Interscope Records.

Marvel Music/Hollywood’s Avengers Assemble soundtrack, featuring “Live to Rise,” the first new Soundgarden track in years, along with songs from Shinedown, Bush, Rise Against, Scott Weiland, Black Veil Brides, Evanescence, Five Finger Death Punch, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Cherri Bomb, is earmarked for sales of 25-30k.

The UMe release of the companion CD to Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison documentary, Living in the Material World, is slated for 14-17k.

Atlantic hip-hop hybrid Santigold’s sophomore album Master of My Make-Believe is on target for 12-15k.

Album sales were down 6% vs. last week, flat vs. same week last year and down 1% year to date.

Track sales were down 1.5% vs. last week, up 1% vs. same week last year and up 7% year to date.

TEA sales were down 4% vs. last week, up 1% vs. same week last year and up 2% year to date.

Its scary that NOW still exists and sells, of course not even close to what it used too. Carrie's album is pretty good, a little bloated and overproduced would love to hear her sing more raw thats why i cant get into her covering a Heart song, no one can come close to Ann Wilson, plus Alone has been covered recently and very blandly. Im surprised a little with Norah's numbers, mainly because im not sure if they took into account early sales since the album came out on the 27th not Tuesday. But she just listed her 45+ tour schedule, with more to be added through the fall of 2012, including a July 3rd Central park show, she has also done a few "unannounced" club dates in NYC. Kind of like Prince's Hit N Run type vibe when he was still doing it like that. Love the darkness of Norah's record, i knew mainstream would struggle with it, they need to be spoon fed.

I think they under-estimate Kenny Chesney, and OVER-estimate 50Cent, 230,000? in this time? Nas sounds about right, that new single "the don" is pure garbage, he has gone the Jay Z route now. ANd that John Mayer number to me seems about 100k over at least, i would be shocked if he did 200k especially now with no promo, tour, live stuff etc.
