I don't really either, but I do like that Adele is just a singer, not a gimmick or worse, a hot girl pretending to be a gimmick.

To me, her success shows how starved people are for some normal decent music.

No disrespect to her, but she really isn't doing anything special, except compared to everyone else on the top10.

damn, wish i had the loot to buy a couple thousand copies of Thriller, just to stop all the talk about Adele's 21! that could've easily been Joss Stone, Alison Moyet, heck even Amy Winehouse! the bandwagon chugs along!

Thriller still has way more impact and still best selling album of all time! And also this is a different time. It's still pretty impressive. but it wouldn't change the fact that Thriller is the best selling album ever, and had a huge impact on music.

and I mean it

I am, personally, tried of hearing her music at this point, especially when I never liked her entire album in the first save for a few songs on it. It has nothing to do with me being a misogynist. I also got sick of Alanis Morisette and Norah Jones (never even liked the latter tbqh).

Though, for people saying that sales don't matter...I might have to play devil's advocate for a bit and dispute that for a bit. Most people who make it to the 'greatest lists' or are remembered throughout music history, in terms of pop music, have, usually, been pretty big sellers. The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Tupac, and etc. This just can't be one giant coincidence. I feel that some people feel that there's no way to truly define the classics so they go with what pop music was most popular at times. That's what it always seemed like to me. Even the 'classic songs' were usually the singles that charted the highest on Billboard. So, in a way, they always do seem to matter in a big way.

That being said I hope that she surpasses the Beatles. Just because. lol

And yet you dislike several more tallented female artists....

do you know me? who are you? my sister? lol you'd be surprised if you only knew the big number of female artists that I like, many of whom are often called "CRAP" and "NO TALENT WHORES". confused You just don't know what the hell you're talking about. And, as far as 04-12 popular music goes, I don't think there's a more "talented" woman than Adele, that's the point...

and also, there's a big difference between "disliking" and "not truly digging the music"

Yes, I do find that post extremely..odd.

You call Whitney Houston "dull and boring" yet Adele's music is just as slow as Whitney's is/was. Hell, maybe even slower. Explain yourself. lol

if you guys are TRULY trying to force me into a pointless Adele vs Whitney fams war, I gotta say that yes, besides the hits, Whitney music was dull, and yes, Adele (and many other female artists) is like 1000000 better than Whitney, who was a singer. Adele is more than a singer...face it

funny how this thread has basically become a crazy war with MJ/Adele/Norah/Whitney/anti-current music/pro-current music/pro-organic music/anti-slow music/anti-female artists fams all shooting in every direction nuts uzi

this thread is a tragedy lol

that's not the point, you MJ fams (fams, not fans) are killing me falloff

in the UK (a very important country in terms of popular music) Adele's 21 album has sold MORE than MJ's Thriller, even in the post-vynil/post-p2p-megaupload-iTunes era = HUGE achievement. MORE sales...

facts, lol

I don't know why you guys keep talking about the '83 Grammies, the 7 singles of Thriller, the MTV videos, the grandmas singing Billie Jean... confuse

I'm gonna say this and then I'm bouncing but... (and this will probably piss some of y'all off but I don't give a fuck flipped off )

It's funny how we all go about "the sad state of the music industry" and "how no one is selling"...

BUT as soon as an artist starts to sell a crazy amount of numbers, we all question how someone could enjoy their music, how someone could buy it when in their opinion "there's better acts" and all that bullcrap...

And if that person happens to topple over someone's favorite artist in a certain COUNTRY we think we could bitch and ruin on someone else's parade because someone got taken down.

But yet we still bitch about the music "industry" and its "failure" to produce decent sales.

Seriously, y'all are funny.

Can't they accept more people like Adele's album than Thriller? biggrin

Are you stupid? They don't.

Whilst it is extremely popular, it isn't even a quatre as popular as Thriller.

Adele is an English artist. Hence why she sells best there.

Michael Jackson is an American artist, hence why Thriller sold best there.

When Adele's 21 goes 27 x Platinum in ANY country, then come talk to me.

I'm not really a big fan of Adele but I can understand why she has more credibility than WH (who i actually liked) - WH is no different from people like Celine, Leona Lewis, Jordan Sparks etc... Turn up and sing - little creative output and charisma - just a voice. - is that an artist or just a singer. I'd say the latter.

I can kinda understand that, but when I listen to a song I could care less about who the writer or producer is. I don't like Adele because she wrote her whole album, I like her because I think her songs are good. Yes Whitney just showed up and sang, but I think she made being a vocalist an art in itself, which previously hadn't been done before. Whitney and her voice was like Hendrix and his guitar or Scott Joplin and his piano imo. But I know everyone one's different..I guess.

Whitney had little charisma? lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

nuts

She is from the UK. She went to bloody Brit school. Ofcourse she is going to sell well there...

Not to mention, the UK's music industry is absolutely and entirely appalling. With silly little boy bands from X Factor ruling the charts day in, day out.
