Melissa Manchester ~ Don't Cry Out Loud You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The original by the late, Peter Allen, is not bad either... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I didn't know there was a previous version. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Whatever happened to her? Is that the only song she ever did? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

She has many albums. This is another one of her popular songs. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

scriptgirl said: Whatever happened to her? Is that the only song she ever did? I remember her from my childhood she seemed to fit in the adult contemporary category. I think once MTV took off by 1982 she became a victim of the pop audience gravitating towards visual artists.

Here's another song of hers that I like. It's a duet with Peabo Bryson....

As a coincidence to this thread, I just saw an ad in a paper on the bus this morning that Melissa performed in a local venue a couple of weeks ago. So, I guess she has been doing well in small venues for all these years. Glad to see she is still performing. No. She also did the soundtrack to Ice Castles, hit with the slow jam Midnight Blue, and toured as background for Bette Midler with Barry Mannilow. The 80's pop hit posted is generally kind of..crap. "Climb in my fur."

This is my cut by her:
It was actually a remake written and sung by Dalbello :
But Mel put her foot in it, so she owns it.

She also co-wrote Whenever I Call You Friend with Kenny Loggins who recorded it as a duet with Stevie Nicks. "Climb in my fur."

Ah, shit! See, I learned something new! I loved that song back when and still do! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I always believed Nippy used this as an example of how to sing Pop ballads. Every time I hear this song and Melissa's delivery, it reminds me so much of Nippy. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

This is my favorite song by Ms. Manchester. The album, "Home To Myself" her debut was good, very good. The late CBS journalist, the late Bill Bradley was married to Melissa's sister.
