Bluegrass You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Dolly Parton's bluegrass trilogy The Grass is Blue, Little Sparrow and Halo and Horns are wonderful and showcase Dolly's talent brilliantly.

Bluegrass is not a "hit single" type of music, and I'm not sure if it's really transported that much out of the USA. LOL! I saw the title of this thread and HAD 2 check in! I was RAISED on Bluegrass! There's a part of me now that will often hark back to it when I'm in a record store checkin' out some of the Country shit, but I just can't bring myself 2 buy any of it. Not sure why. I grew up listening to Emmylou, Ricky, Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, etc...My father was even a session player in Nashville for the legendary Bill Anderson, but this is goin' back a good 40+ years. Sometimes, I'll get a soft spot 4 it and have to pull out my "Highways and Heartaches" CD from Ricky Skaggs! Brings back memories in the kitchen of my father playin' "Uncle Pen" on his mandolyn! Just wanted 2 share. Think I'ma stay with the R&B tho! Peace. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

^^I used to watch Grand Ole Opry & Hee Haw every Sunday evening. I guess I was into Hee Haw more though. I remember Dolly Parton had a TV show that came on Saturday mornings before cartoons, but don't remember what the name of it was. Later I liked watching Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters (featuring The Kroft Puppets ) You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B.
