Classic Of The Day IX

Madonna.

Yeah, that's right... Madonna. nod

Can you believe how long she's been around? I'm gonna give props to Madonna and her (what I believe to be) first foray into a politically motivated message... Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you... "Papa Don't Preach"

I remember when this came out... Danny Aiello in the video, Madonna lookin' incredible, especially in that dance sequence with that black outfit on...I thought her boobs were gonna pop out any minute!!! horny

The pro-choice folks with picket signs stating "Madonna Don't Preach"... lol

Madonna
Papa Don't Preach

Papa I know you're going to be upset
'Cause I was always your little girl
But you should know by now
I'm not a baby

You always taught me right from wrong
I need your help, daddy please be strong
I may be young at heart
But I know what I'm saying

The one you warned me all about
The one you said I could do without
We're in an awful mess, and I don't mean maybe - please

Chorus:

Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, I'm keeping my baby, oh
I'm gonna keep my baby, mmm...

He says that he's going to marry me
We can raise a little family
Maybe we'll be all right
It's a sacrifice

But my friends keep telling me to give it up
Saying I'm too young, I ought to live it up
What I need right now is some good advice, please

(chorus)

Daddy, daddy if you could only see
Just how good he's been treating me
You'd give us your blessing right now
'Cause we are in love, we are in love, so please

(chorus)

Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
(repeat)

Oh, I'm gonna keep my baby, ooh
Don't you stop loving me daddy
I know, I'm keeping my baby

The 'True Blue' album (1986) is really when people started to take Madonna seriously as an artist. She was writing most of her own lyrics at this point, and her songs were becoming much more meaningful and thought-provoking.The first single from this album,"Live To Tell" is a perfect example of her new direction. There was nothing "bubblegum" about it.Then,"Papa Don't Preach" came out and showed the world that Madonna was thinking serious thoughts and singing serious songs.

That's a good album. I generally ignore it compared to her first two albums and Like a Prayer though. I think I'll give it a listen soon.

Years ago there was a picture of Madonna in the Village Voice. It was taken in the East Village, around the time that "Everybody" (one of my all time favorite Madonna songs) came out. I remember she was wearing one of those tweed antigue coats that were very popular during the time. I saved the pic because I KNEW she was going to be large! (Unfortunately, I no longer have it. sad)

Wasn't there actually a cut of the video where she did fall out as to speak. Im sure it was shown once in the UK and there was big fuss was made of it. Actually im pretty sure there was as i remember seeing articles on it in the newspaper. I never got to see that cut of the video itself but i saw the scans which made the newspaper and they were indeed on show. Can anyone clear this up?

As much as I can't stand the bitch, its def won't change the fact that I enjoy her music alot. LOL back in the day when everybody in the blocks noding their heads to Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Run DMC, Salt-N-Pepa. I was inside my bedroom listening 2 her music along with MJ's.

Ahh lol just like Stevie Wonder said "I Wish" wink
