The Headhunters

...Spank-A-Lee & Sly

...Butterfly & Chameleon

From a 1974 concert in Bremen Germany.
A nod to Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. Progressive Funk at its finest.
Instead taking the JB path of regimental FUNK (an art in itself), he let the musicians play.
Added a level of harmonic sophistication while still maintaining the groove.

Herbie Hancock - keys
Paul Jackson - bass
Mike Clark - drums
Bill Summers - percussion
Bennie Maupin - sax

confuse Why do I get the impression, based on HH's intro to Butterfly, that some level of horticulture may have been a part of this gig? stoned

I think the comments about the butterfly were inspired by his buddhist views and not drugs.

Apparently Herbie's got a biography coming out soon, so it could answer some of those questions. We've always laughed about how boring a biography on him would be because he was always so damn decent compared to other big names in jazz. wink

Joking really. Not about what he said but how he said it. smile

And yes he's an amazing beautiful gentleman. Blessed to know him.

Was just watching Palm Grease the other day!!!! Wish this DVD was released. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Herbie is huge on my list for his work with the Fender Rhodes. Love Jackson's work on the bass too. Great band.

The name was cool too!!!! cool

For real. You usually hear all kinds of boogie / blues stuff played with it and when you listen to Herbie's stuff it's just mindblowing where he takes that instrument. I bought a MK I a while ago and I can admit I bought it mostly because I love the way he plays it.
