I know that, but many people still consider that sampling. I think two of the other songs I listed might have rerecorded the music, but it still took the music from another song.

That doesn't matter, it's not sampling according to the law. Sampling is taking a pre-recorded sound from a record or other source and programming it into a sampler to use it on another song. It's not using lyrics or replaying music from another song. You don't have to get permission for that because it's considered a remake, cover, or interpolation. The original writers have to be credited though. Weird Al doesn't have to get permission for doing a parody (most of them are replayed by him and his band, there are a few that use samples and he does have to clear them), he just does so out of courtesy. My Sweet Lord is not a sample of He's So Fine just because it sounds similar, because George doesn't put the Chiffons record on his song. Samplers didn't exist then anyway. lol A sample has to be cleared because it is someone else's work. Turntablism is not exactly the same thing as sampling either, although since sounds from another record is used, the person that has the scratching on their record would have to get permission.

The Chiffons "He's So Fine" & George Harrison "My Sweet Lord"

I don't know if this example qualifies to be in this thread but I always thought the Sly Stone and the family's tune 'Thank you for letting me be myself Again' the riff inspired 'Rhytmn Nation' by Janet Jackson.

Sorry cant post the videos to make my point using my cell.

See thee to the "WHO SAMPLED IT?" (http://prince.org/msg/8/380717) thread, because even though I know Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis added a lot to it, and they could have replayed it... it was a samp using Sly's recording.

How about the break in The Gap Bands "Shake", where the guitar goes into the guitar intro of EWF's "Shining Star".
Katie Kinisky: "So What Are The Latest Dances, Nell?"
Nell Carter: "Anything The Black Folks did Last Year"

Never Gonna Fall in Love Again Eric Carmen has some Rachmaninoff 3rd movement 2nd symphony. Insatiable has some This Must Be Heaven by Bloodstone similarities. International Lover has a bit of When You Touch Me by Skyy in it. R Kellys Love Letter sounds a bit like that Trey Songs Gonna Think I inveted sex (still dont know how they released that song) Prince jacks so smooth and incorporates it into his own thang hes 5 albums up the road before it dawns on you.The Mavis Staples song Come Home goes w Al Greens Call Me like a mug too.
