Anyone Familar With Carmina Burana?

My town just did an extravagent rendition of the infamous Cantata, and it had some of my old orchestra friend's in it ^_^

The songs are just beautiful & 2 of them are pretty well known O Fortune &

They also had this infamous song mixed in

It's worth a listen for sure smile

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

I first heard it through this clip made in the 90's and went crazy for it! I think P.Diddy and Nas may have sampled it in 2000 as well. Anyways I found the CD with it back in university and had to analyze some of it. Can't remember what I wrote though I wish I devoted more time to it, it's truly a masterpiece

wink yes i do believe it has been sampled quite a bit in hip hop! good point.

They had the words on the side when i just saw it, and eh i always am iffy if that is really the right translation lol

From what I recall, wasn't it in German and something about not being on drugs?

The opening section of it has been used on 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 songs, movies, tv shows and ads. I'm actually sick of it. It's almost as if people just can't come up with anything else to use when they want to use choir music.

The lyrics are actually about partying. wink

Latin. And while I'm not certain about the text of the entire cantata, the first (and most popular) movement, O Fortuna, is simply an observation on the power and unpredictability of sheer luck (or the Roman goddess thereof).

...And yes, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ
πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν
τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

But there is so many great songs past just O Fortune... like WAY Better lol

I guess O Fortune is the ''I Will Always Love You'' or ''Let It Be'' In which it is the most known, but there are also a lot of other classic songs that people odn't realize come with it razz

On that note, which orchestra did the best interpretation of the Carmina Burana?

Just which BIG ego are we talking about? :p That clip made me soooo hyper for years though cause he looks hot and I wanted to be part of the hyper crowd, but I can't watch it anymore, too stressful. My mom just shook her head when she first saw it lol

Anyways, there is more the Carmina Burana than the part in Brace Yourself with the horns and all, I love that part too.
