Hearing talking about Arif Mardin made me go back and listen to her 1st 4 solo albums back to back.

I still think that Arif was starting to lose his touch when he got into producing her, but THAT album and "B-Bop Medly" are just another jewels for his crown, and her crown for the vocal spectacle.

Would you say this is her best album? I think it's excellent...every track is a winner."Any Old Sunday" is a highlight, and "Fate" has been sampled many times.

It is nod her best solo, that is.

Even the b-sides are excellent, Lover's Touch is certainly a delight.

This was always my favorite solo album by her until "The Woman I Am" came along. Vocally, she peaked with that album. "What Cha Gonna Do" comes in a very close second, tho. biggrin

I can't explain why but I slept on this song until the 1998 Soul Train Award's Show. The Train was honoring Khan and they played this song as she walked towards the stage. I jumped up, turned my surround sound up a loud as it would go, and start jamming. lol Actually I kinda got an attitude when the music stopped so Khan could speak. Then I thought, I didn't have this song, and I couldn't remember what album it was on... panic attack. Then I recalled it was on the "I'm Every Woman: The Best of Chaka Khan". I played this song every day for damn near a year, I wrecked everybodies nerves in my house.

While I love "Lover's Touch", "Only Once" is my favorite B-side from the album. God, I wish someone would remaster the album to include those two gems.
