Nas- Ether (Jay Z diss) One of my fav tracks ever. Jay took a loss on this one.

I've heard a lotta diss tracks over the years. Cube's' No Vaseline, Pac's Hit em up but this one is the best one I've heard to date. Nas lyrically destroyed Jigga.

Please, this is just a bunch of homophobic drivel, and a completely unnecessary rant set to a beat.

Less is more, the track goes on forever, to me Nas just ends up sounding like the one who's obsessed.

I agree. Spoken like somebody who knows their stuff. Battling is the essence of hip hop. Nas got down with his.

headbang Sup homie

lol

This right here is what alot of folks fail to realize. A REAL MC battles and freestyles thats how you can easily tell between a MC and someone who just raps
(which is why I dunno why wack ass Jayz gets the cred he gets because he isnt built for battling or is one). You can give somebody a couple rhymes and anybody can rap...

NAS gets dirrtyyy with his lol thats my boy!

Jay Z is big headed and very conceited. He thinks his the best rapper alive and he said he was bigger than Biggie, fuck him. I would HOPE for his sake he understands the distinction.

Ether is the most overrated diss track of all-time!

Takeover is the better song, IMO and Ether is just 4 and a half minutes of "Jay-Z is a homo".

Your probably not listening to the song because he talks about ALOT more than that lol Ether is one of the best diss tracks. If anything it is underrated.

gunshots]

[2Pac talking]
("Fuck Jay-Z")
What's up niggas, ay yo, I know you ain't talking 'bout me dog
You, what?
("Fuck Jay-Z")
You been on my dick nigga, you love my style, nigga
("Fuck Jay-Z")

[Chorus]
(I) Fuck with your soul like ether
(Will) Teach you the king you know you
(Not) "God's son" across the belly
(Lose) I prove you lost already

Brace yourself for the main event
Y'all impatiently waiting
It's like an AIDS test, what's the results?
Not positive, who's the best? Pac, Nas and Big
Ain't no best, East, West, North, South, flossed out, greedy
I embrace y'all with napalm
Blows up, no guts, left chest, face gone
How could Nas be garbage?
Semi-autos at your cartilage
Burner at the side of your dome, come outta my throne
I got this, locked since '9-1
I am the truest, name a rapper that I ain't influenced
Gave y'all chapters but now I keep my eyes on the Judas
With Hawaiian Sophie fame, kept my name in his music
Check it

[Chorus]

[talking]
Ay yo, pass me the weed, pour my ashes out on these niggas man (no doubt)
Ay, y'all faggots, y'all kneel and kiss the fucking ring

[Chorus]

I've been fucked over, left for dead, dissed and forgotten
Luck ran out, they hoped that I'd be gone, stiff and rotten
Y'all just piss on me, shit on me, spit on my grave (uh)
Talk about me, laugh behind my back but in my face
Y'all some "well wishers," friendly acting, envy hiding snakes
With your hands out for my money, man, how much can I take?
When these streets keep calling, heard it when I was sleep
That this Gay-Z and Cockafella Records wanted beef
Started cocking up my weapon, slowly loading up this ammo
To explode it on a camel, and his soldiers, I can handle
This for dolo and it's manuscript, just sound stupid
When KRS already made an album called Blueprint
First, Biggie's ya man, then you got the nerve to say that you better than Big
Dick sucking lips, why not you let the late, great veteran live

[talking]
(I...will...not...lose)
"God's son" across the belly, I prove you lost already
The king is back, where my crown at?
(Ill...will) Ill Will rest in peace, let's do it niggas

[Chorus]

Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What's sad is I love you 'cause you're my brother
You traded your soul for riches
My child, I've watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad, watching his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?
Well life is hard, hug me, don't reject me
Or make records to disrespect me, blatent or indirectly
In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearing Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase
You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan
I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class
You Tae-bo hoe, tryna' work it out, you tryna' get brolic?
Ask me if I'm tryna' kick knowledge
Nah, I'm tryna' kick the shit you need to learn though
That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow
Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he's Puffy
Rockefeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after?
Put it together, I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas
And now y'all try to take my spot, fellas?
Philly's hot rock fellas, put you in a dry spot, fellas
In a pine box with nine shots from my glock, fellas
Foxy got you hot 'cause you kept your face in her puss
What you think, you getting girls now 'cause of your looks?
Ne-gro please
You no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat
Compared to Beans you wack
And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame
You ass, went from Jaz to hanging with Caine, to Herb, to Big
And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit
You a dick-riding faggot, you love the attention
Queens niggas run you niggas, ask Russell Simmons
Ha, R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick
Your whole damn record label gunned up and clapped quick
Shawn Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick
So little shorty's getting gunned up and clapped quick
How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips?
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shit, apologize, nigga, just ask Kiss

Ether was brutal. Takeover was meh at best. Superugly was the kind of retort you would expect from someone who was embarrassed, but too arrogant to acknowledge defeat. imo of course.

So you call yourself God MC, Jay Hova
Drunk the glass of blasphemy and forgot to pray over
Your game's over, crossed the warpath of a brave soldier
You're a makeover, my protege trying to takeover
I was the shepherd that led you, but you bit the hand that fed you
Mad cause since I met you I never did respect you
And as hard as it seems, you know that I fathered your dreams
You was a groupie always begging to be part of my team
Another case of a boy and his teacher
I was the first to poison your speakers
So kill all that noise that you're preaching
I understand all your plans to underhand
Aired threats of you pulling my card next Summer Jam
Let me make this clear Hova, you had my leftovers
She told me your little problem of the day when you slept over
But that's another subject homey, nigga you phony
I'm coming to collect the debt from the years that you owe me
So what you capitalized, only cause I allowed

I'm taking aim at your dome, and reclaiming my throne
Who said that I ain't still nasty

[Verse 2]
How you planned on facing, the half man half-amazing
Don't need a fam, Nas is a one man invasion
Claim you hot but you flopped with your Roc Familia
Cause real recognize real and you're not familiar
Call yourself gangster but you were begging for pardon
That night in carbon, when Terror Squad flipped on your squadron
Tried to front on their checks, till Pun put a gun to your chest

You said it yourself, dog, Nas is one of the best
Don't need to search for some dirt to expose you
I leave it up to the flow dispose you, when I oppose you
This is it I'm calling ya, come out and play like Warriors
Studied my blueprint then pieced together your formula
Guess the knowledge I speak too deep to follow
That's why your stomach to weak to swallow

The real truth that Nas is the greatest of all timers
Fuck skeletons, keep only weaponry in my closets

If you had asked me which of the disses I liked better, I'd say "Ether" but overtime I started to look at this song as less of a diss and something close to an obsession with Jay-Z. I hate to say it but "Takeover" was actually a better diss record. I didn't like "Superugly" at all but "Takeover" was great. I also love the "Five to One" sample it used. As far as diss records go, "No Vaseline" is number-one to me. Everything else pales, including "Hit 'Em Up".

Anybody that listens to real MCs knows that Ether was better.

I dont think Ether is the best diss record ever invented but it definitly was lyrically superior than anything Jay threw at him and clearly shows Nas is lyrically more equipped than Jay who solely relies on surface punch lines while Nas as usual digs deeper and makes you think.

Some people say that Ether shows Nas obession with Jay and I dont see that. Its exactly the opposite. Jay came for him first. The point of a diss record is to diss them with factual information or using clever lines to throw stabs. Ether is a very mature, lyrically complex MC diss record.

Superugly and even Take Over is something a teenager would come back with...

Wait I changed my mind about No Vaseline being the best diss record of all time.

Even though there wasn't a diss song released, I actually think Kool Moe Dee's diss to Busy Bee was actually the BEST one (especially when Busy couldn't come up with a retaliation and just said "fuck it").

Followed by the Kool/LL Cool J round of disses (those guys went at like Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier).

Then we had the Juice Crew vs. Boogie Down Productions and all (mainly KRS vs. MC Shan).

The Roxanne wars (which was kinda fucked up lol).

MC Lyte vs. Antoinette (Antoinette could've been better if she had written her own rhymes, which she didn't so Lyte clearly won that battle).

The NWA-associated disses (100 Miles and Runnin', No Vaseline, Dre Day, Real Muthaphuckkin G's) were varied but I think No Vaseline still is the best one.

The BIG/Pac thing? I don't know what to really say about that one because it seemed they let the fists and guns do more talking than rhyming. I like "Hit 'Em Up" and all but that period was nonsense considering what happened after that. People considered BIG's "Long Kiss Goodnight" as a Pac diss but that was released after their deaths so Puff probably decided not to exclude it, which says a lot about his character (hell Suge did the same with Dr. Dre though Dre's still alive as well as Snoop).

I liked 50 Cent's disses towards Murder Inc. Ja thought he could diss like 2Pac and ended up getting spanked by Eminem and Busta Rhymes (of all people). But that one almost mirrored BIG and Pac where there were actual blows. Luckily both of them are still alive (and both fell off).

Of course the Jay-Z/Nas thing, which though it included homophobic disses, was one of the few that it didn't come down to gunplay.

----

I don't know if some rappers today could ever do dissing as good as the ones mentioned above.
