John Cafferty ~ On The Darkside {Live 2011} You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I hadn't seen the movie until the 1990's, but the song was played on the radio a lot. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Poor dude was knocked for trying to imitate Bruce Springsteen. He looked like Bruce, dressed like Bruce, sounded like Bruce, and had a black saxophone player like Bruce.
This song was derided as being a knock-off of Springsteen's "She's The One" but I always liked it.

His group was called the Beaver Brown Band. Not sure what that means. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B.
