Ok, is Lionel's album THAT good Or.... are there are a gazillion country fans out there or what?!! I'd thought he'd drop like a lead balloon after week 1, but this is three weeks straight now of 6 figure sales isn't it?! Lionel has this weird appeal that doesn't seem to diminish. i hear he's HUGE in the middle east too for some reason. Tuskeegee is a retread of old material too, so i'm perplexed even though he's done country b4, i'm at a loss for the reason this cd seems to be catching on

Hey, if the duets thing can work for Tony Bennett, it can work for Lionel!

Country music fans do tend to be alot more loyal as a fanbase compared to their pop and r&b counterparts, from what I've seen through the years. That plus Lionel's earlier forays into country music, either through his own solo stuff or with the Commodores (ballads) through the decades, might go to explaining why his current album is doing so well now. If his current album was r&b/pop, no way it would be doing as well, even if it had guest appearances with Beyonce, Rhianna and Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj with Robin Thicke thrown in for good measure. Exactly. Lionel has always been a country artist (in a sense) anyways so it made sense he made this album. A few months ago I was like "what?" But now I get it.

Frank Sinatra was releasing duets albums in the 1990's. Country fans are pretty loyal and are more likely to buy a CD. Lionel released albums with current R&B acts (Raphael Saadiq, Akon) and they didn't do much business. If Lionel recorded an album with all older country singers like Charlie Daniels, Willie Nelson, or Dolly Parton, it wouldn't sell that much either. Darius Rucker also released a R&B album that didn't do anything, but when he put out a country album, it became popular. BTW Willie Nelson is also on the CD and so is the older Kenny Rogers. Plus Akon is on everyones CD he has done 300-400 callobs [Edited 4/25/12 10:33am]

But I said all though. There's still young acts on it. Willie's own albums don't sell that big. George Strait is still popular though. He tried the duet thing with Akon on his last album and it was not good.

I know. I thought this album was half-way decent. I didn't care for "Just Go" at all. Maybe because Lionel didn't write anything on it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I just saw this commercial on TV. It appears Lionel is going to be on some kind of singing contest program. weird time in music, you really have NO IDEA how stuff is going to do. I mean who saw Adele's success coming. I'm sure Lionel's glad for the timing of the success. country fans have serious weight.
i think i'll see if i can find Darius Rucker's solo r&b joint used, same for Corey Glover's solo material. methinks there's some relatively unheard soulful vocals on both!!

Lionel was promoting this show on Jimmy Kimmel. Kelly Clarkson, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke will be mentors and singing partners with contestants on "Duets," the TV series. ^^ I say it like this, this industry always promotes one act at a time or various acts in various genres where you know you'll get profit off that. No one profit from the young that much because they're stereotypically dumb to "know any real music" and will play anything with a beat. Lionel and Adele's successes were no accident, me thinks.

Country music, is all about the story. If you take away the R&B arrangements to his songs, and add a country arrangement, you have a great story that is, set to music. YES, his album is THAT GOOD. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Country and R&B used to be distant cousins. But then R&B's family started to neglect what R&B started off with. I wish R&B itself separate itself completely from hip-hop and techno. But technically country and R&B used to be one in the same.

Very true, but to be honest, most of the songs in their original form were country songs. "Deep River Woman," "Stuck On You," and "Sail On" are straight up country songs.

Well as someone said on the Prince Documentary, "Purple Rain" the song was universal because when you listen to it, its not RB, Funk, Pop, or anything labelled, i mean it could be sung as a country song.
For Lionel, i think we have to seperate Country from COUNTRY, now if we are talking Merle Haggard and Hank williams Sr. Patsy Cline, thats not what Lionel is doing. Lets understand that this record, YES, has been well marketing, but its also been smart on who is involved, he didnt pick Country Artists no one heard of, he picked mega sellers, and then Used his Old Songs that everyone on the planet knows. So this pretty much is like a Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Harry Connick Jr, type doing the standards thing, nothing more nothing less. Lets remember Lionels past few records didnt do anything, and rightly so they were god awful, NeYo like BS. So like i said in another Lionel Post, if Lionel was doing his OWN country record, new songs, no guests, and was selling 500,000 copies than i would be like "damn Lionel" but for this, im glad because the arrangements on this album are really good, and the acts he picked are WHAT POP artists used be like, so im proud it wasnt lame ass re-hashes, they actually really did the songs over well "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
