Very nice voice. He'd never make it in today's industry, tho. First of all, he can actually sing. And he's overweight. The only chance he would ever have is to become a Dance/Club singer. He could maybe do well in that genre. But, Pop or R&B, forget about it. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Oh shit! I didn't even notice the first video where he's dressed in drag. OMG! So he's a part of that Glee TV show? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

*points you toward Adele, Kelly Price and all the other big people that can sing that manage to do just fine in the music industry*
There's tons more too.
Not to mention the artists who don't have weight problems, can clearly sing, and have record contracts (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion...).
People whine about that sort of thing but if they have the talent and the presence, you'll get signed and find an audience no matter what. If they don't, it's because they just aren't good enough, not because of what they look alike or how talented they are.
It's just an excuse that doesn't even hold up to closer inspection. λΉ„

Other than what's-his-face from that TV talent show, name some more overweight black male singers (not rappers) who have been successful on the Pop & R&B charts over the past 5 years. There may be some, I just don't remember any.
Adele is a pretty big exception to the rule. I thought I heard she has slimmed down quite a bit recently? Same with Kelly Price. Although Kelly may have been more successful when she was larger. But, even then, she was not afforded the same opportunities as many of her slimmer counterparts with extremely limited vocal abilities.
I don't really keep up with today's artists but I have seen/read countless interviews with artists from the 70s and especially the 80s who said they were under constant pressure from their labels about their weight. As a general rule, the music industry is not too kind to full-figured artists. [Edited 4/24/12 17:14pm] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

They both have bomb ass voices but I think I like Tyson better, just off of what's been posted. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Never heard of this Tyson guy, but I like him. His voice doesn't really remind me of Sylvester, though. Reminds me of another voice from the 80's. I just can't remember who. Does he just sing dance music or has he recorded any ballads? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Thank you so much for posting about Tyson! I started a thread on him a while back and no one really responded. He is the bomb and sounds so much like Sylvester, maybe even more than Sylvester. His album is fantastic!

who's looking for the next Sylvester?

Very nice but still no Sylvester. Y'all are setting the bar too high because there's only one Sylvester. Tyson sounds similar but his voice doesn't get as high, loud, and screaming like Sylvester's voice does which I absolutely love.
Tyson does sound good though and the music behind his voice sounds pretty decent too and that's the most important thing because the best voice in the world ain't worth a damn if they music behind it sucks. Surely these aren't new songs are they? I mean, they sound way too good to be new or from recent years. He's definitely someone I'd be interested in checking out and for me to say that about someone current, then they must be good.

Don't ruin him honey. The world is full of black Lawrence Welks these days. We need somebody that throws down. Andy is a four letter word.

Yes they are! His album only dropped in Febrruary and it is the bomb! I played it for my husband and he couldn't believe it was new. It sounds so 80s which I love!!

Vain
VainAndy, this is probably the only current album you could get down with. It sounds straight out of 83!!! Check it out!

See, that's exactly the type of stuff I like when it comes to something new. Something that sounds as if the 1990s and everything it influenced afterwards on up until today never existed and was just wiped away from my memory forever. Either that, or something of a danceable nature that sounds like nothing that's ever been made before. . . . [Edited 4/25/12 9:32am] Andy is a four letter word.

That is precisely why you of all people need to have Tyson's album. It doesn't sound remotely current at all.

Nice voice for a straight guy.

Tyson in a year or two could be mowing bitches down. I hope these are early and recent cuts for him. Sylvester is a hard act to follow though, and they have a different gender thing going on, but queer to the bone is good if you like the tasty marrow.
The actor from Glee has a really nice voice. The material chosen for him is just not very inspired - I Will Survive? Really? And if you are going to do His Eye Is On The Sparrow you better sing the hell out of it, or have a really special arrangement. They put it out there like he was performing live at your local supermarket, in the produce section. (Ok, there was some fun choreography to Boogie Shoes.)
Here is a version of Valerie for anyone who needs the Glee treatment cleaned out of their head, that was a fucking shame. http://www.youtube.com/wa...ature=fvst
