Sinead O'Connor Cancels Tour Due to Mental Illness
April 23, 2012
Sinead O'Connor says she is canceling "all touring" for the year due to her mental breakdown, she reportedly announced on her website Monday (April 23).
The 45-year-old singer's website and Twitter acount are both no longer active, but a fan site has posted the statement that appeared on the site for a few minutes.
After reportedly tweeting that there was "too much falseness" in showbiz and she wanted a "normal job," O'Connor wrote that she is "very unwell" and therefore canceling her 2012 tour.
"As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release," she reportedly wrote on her website Monday. "So very stupidly I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am. I apologise (sic) sincerely for any difficulties this may cause."
The post also said that O'Connor "hopes and plans" to appear at the Curtis Mayfield tribute in New York City's Lincoln Center on July 20.
The Irish singer split from therapist husband Barry Herridge in December after 16 days of marriage.
O'Connor was set to tour this spring in support of her latest album How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? -- which was released in February.

The album is fuckin awesome. I think she should do it and have some major anti-depressant drug company sponsor the tour.

The disc is really really good. Im glad I just saw her back in the day when she was peaking artistic wise, now the woman needs help. the album is SOOOOO damn great....
it sounds just as vital as the stuff she did in her prime... (i wish prince's new shit was half as good as this album!)
i caught the show in LA, it was remarkable...
she is so talented but so tormented.
i really love her music, i was really looking forward to these shows.. but her health is more important... i wish her the best.....

the new album is indeed excellent. i've always liked her stuff tho. still listen to "faith and courage" and "theology" quite regularly.
hope she seeks out some good help this time that has a lasting effect on her and not just short term.
she has a great talent and it would be a shame to see it wasted. but more than that, she deserves better for herself as a person.
