I Miss Freestyle!

Any fans of freestyle here on the org? I've been listening to a lot of freestyle lately. The music had such great beats and was so much fun. Lisa Lisa, Sweet Sensation, Expose', Noel and many more. After a while they all kind of started to sound the same lol but I really dug it. Anyone here still listen to that stuff? Why isn't there a second coming of Freestyle? Like younger artists that still have that sound but maybe a little more updated?

Gloria Estefan has a song on her new album that has a freestyle sound.

I think Latin freestyle was mostly a regional thing in the US, like Miami Bass, so most people don't know about it.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Here's a Lisette Melendez interview from last year.

I think Freestyle is underground today, so I guess you would have to search for any new acts. But some of the original acts are still performing in clubs. India (or La India) does salsa and tropical today.

I think he came around in the late 1980's. It's interesting his big pop hit was a ballad and not really a freestyle track.

Damn, isnt this weird. My first single back in 1991 was freestyle. Song was called 'GIRL HANG IT UP!'. The song actually had its 20th Anniversary last September. Anyhow, I am friends with all the mainstream freestyle artists. I tell ya, its a small world. As for a new generation of freestyle artists, there are many of them out there but radio does not support that genre of music anymore so they are not getting the attention that they should. Also, even some of the major freestyle artists tried making comebacks... and failed.

But I can tell you.. My good friend ROBBIE ROB of C+C Music Factory is working on a project that features 3 of the biggest names in Freestyle. All together in 1 song. I cant tell you who, but I can hint.. Can You feel The Beat, Cuz its Bad of the Heart leaving Skars of Love. if you didnt get that, then you dont know freestyle.

The Cover Girls toured 4-5 years ago but no one cared sad

I felt annoyed when Ciara did it cause the kiddies seemed to forget the genre already existed and was not new. And when Janet did it for 20 YO, it was kinda bland except for Get It Out Me.

The first freestyle songs I remember loving were Let The Music Play when I couldn't remember though I was told I reacted like crazy as a 1 year old, and Linear's Sending All My Love when it was all over radio 22 years ago.

Because of You by Cover Girls is a song that makes me giddy and hyper, and I realize when I'm in love without realizing it, I feel it even more smile smile
