As Nas told him:

"Biggie's your man

Then you got nerve to say that you're better than BIG

Dick-suckin' lips, why won't you let the late great veteran live?"

To understand JayZ use of BIGGIE lyrics you have to understand jays appreciation for the relationship of Plato and Socrates. Student teacher ...student attempting to further the teachings of his mentor... that's too out the box for you Real Hip Hop aficionados. Fact is there has only been 40+ presidents in us history, and to have the lyrics used by anyone in that type of exclusive company used to articulate his point places hip hop in a spotlight that no rapper before him was able to accomplish. That's not popularity son..that's influence ...and influence is the true measure of power.

They call Jay-Z hova?

Nas smacked him one time - It's OVER!

Jay-Z got OWNED....

Furthermore, "Hit 'em Up" was a hell of a lot more aggressive...

"My 44 make sure ALL your kids don't grow"... ouch!

Bring back Tim Dog is what I say...

I'm surprised Tim Dog didn't respond to Snoop's diss to him on "Dre Day"... if he did respond, I missed it.

Abdul

I'm a fan of both Jay and Nas but Nas clearly one that battle IMO, I always felt it was Jay who was obsessed with Nas because he had been talking about him for years in his rhymes.

Jay's response to Ether, Super Ugly, just confirmed his obsession for me, bragging about bangin' Nas baby momma? I guess he had no problem with sloppy seconds, some guys think that's cool, not me!

Yeah that was real disgusting. Showed a lot about Jay's character. I forgot Nas did have the last word in "Last Real N***a Alive" where he actually did rap all the facts this time and was more philosophical (sp?) than emotional as he had been in "Ether".

Not to go back and forth with this but it's obvious you ..whoever started this thread, are not a fan of jay so what's the point? On the subject of greatest of all time....One can judge success in many ways...money, fame, album sales, longevity and first. If you really take a step back and look at it Jay Z is without a doubt the most successful rapper in music history..the accomplishments are too many to list. He is really one of the most succesful artist in music history period. He did all of it through his music and his music still is the reason for his relevancy today. How could he not be the greatest MC of all time? By what other means can we OBJECTIVELY judge it?

Im sorry but I disagree with this not because I am not a Jay z fan but with how you derived to this conclusion and how you define the best.

Objectively Jay Z is not one of the BEST rappers and in my opinion doesnt make a TOP 10 list. Also, Jay Z is NOT a MC. He is a RAPPER there is DIFFERENCE. I discussed this earlier on the first page.

Although, Jay does write some of his material..

Jay Z doesnt free style

Jay Z doesnt battle

Jay Z also steals concepts from other more better MCs and is not innovative nor creative.

His punch lines are generic just like his music is and any REAL hip hop lover will tell you this. I think its unfair that you base the best on how much money they have and hits because if we were going to look at it like that then I guess Jay Z is better than most musicians..

The best is defined by talent, quality and just overall artistic ability not how much money or hits especially in an industry like this where hits are easy and not based on talent.

I say 2pac is the BEST rapper objectively because he had the WHOLE package. He was popular but he still made quality relatable music, he was a GREAT performer unlike boring Jay Z, he exactly was a poet and wrote most of his material, very creative lyrically and made alot of complex songs, did freestyles and battled. Tupac was a MC and he has more of a profound impact on Hip Hop (music) rather than Jay Z who gets that title because he has alot of money.

Then I would say Nas is the greatest, because he inspired almost every rapper after him, producers and rappers / MC's, they always cite him as the biggest inspiration or mention Illmatic as the reason why they do rap/what they inspire to do. Nas has written all of his lyrics and has been a ghostwriter for others such as Will Smith (who had huge success with that song) cant remember the name. 2Pacs Me and my girlfriend was inspired by Nas' I gave you power. Nas problem was never the poetic side but rather the biz side of music, cuz Illmatic was named the best hiphop album and still it didnt sell. While I would say 2pac did have the whole package, mass appeal, sales numbers, popularity I personally prefer Nas to be more original and more real. Dont take me wrong tho, I've always loved me some Pac but Nas's lyrics are so deep and touch the truth about the sociological problems that people have faced in the US. But this wasnt about Nas Vs Pac, this is Jay-Z vs NAS AND NAS IS THE KING OF NEW YORK. Who sampled The world is yours and made it a big hit with Dead Presidents wink

Feels good to know that Nas is bringing the truth back to hip hop, it's been lost a for a while now and needs to find its way home again. I cant wait for the release of the album smile

Hopefully if this album sells well, he might get a well deserved grammy next year.... (hmm in my dreams perhaps...) Fuck the grammys... lol rant...

Okay Ima be honest.. Nas is my FAVORITE rapper of all time. lol

I love 2pac as well. I think as far as deceased rappers goes 2pac definitly has the most impact but if I was to choose a MC who has had the impact LYRICALLY who is ALIVE then I would definitly say Nas first and then Krs One or Rakim in no order second but thats me being biased because Nas is my favorite to!

Nas is VERY VERY VERY UNDERRATED its ridiculous disbelief He needs to get a Hip Hop honor ASAP!!!

Im glad there are some people who appreciate the art of Hiphop/Rap and just dont go on sales and shit. I mean 50 cent has sold a shit tons of records, but he aint close to being top 10 best rappers of all time lmao...

I totally agree girl, Nas is so underrated it's crazy. I dont even understand why? I mean he has the best albums, the best songs and still aint nobody praising him? I dont get it. I think it has to do with his image, he's always had that humble type of thing about him and people seem not to appreciate that. Nas is pure talent tho smile
