team roc invited team QB (nas/mobb deep etc) for a massive tangle.

but QB was going through its civil war and issues during that time.

Nas hollered at CNN to tem up against beans and free but Nore refused..rest is history!!

You talking about a fight or a rap battle?

Beans and Freeway or some big nighas, I'll take them on my side in a fight. lol

Yeah because with those cats you never know what it would've been. If it was a rap battle, I don't know how Freeway would've done but Beans is nice. If a fight, QB wouldn't have stand a chance. falloff

I think Jay-Z knows that NaS will always have the heart of the streets, while he'll always have his hits.

Jay Z is big headed and very conceited. He thinks his the best rapper alive and he said he was bigger than Biggie, fuck him. I would HOPE for his sake he understands the distinction.

Nas def won. The only reason IMO people think Jay-Z won is because he became huge and sold a lot of records and had hits. But lyrically, NAS has always been superior to Jay-Z, I dont think you need to argue that. If you compare their discography ,Nas's is the stronger one and just overall better rapper.

I always thought this interview showed hovas personality and how humble & great Nas is and will always be. The comments on that video are just plain stupid though, Jay-Z better than NAS? hell no...

Ether was so etherous that it became a verb (ethered)in the hip hop lexicon. That shit was personally brutal lol. Jay may have the best beats and popular hits but Ether went for the heart of an opponent without all the yip yap yelling that LL did on Jack The Ripper or that Tupac did on hit 'em up.

Yeah 'Hit Em Up' was nothing but an angry rant over an over-used beat.

I don't even think 2Pac liked it after hearing it. He kept bragging about it being "the greatest diss record" but I don't see it that way. I did like the Outlawz' flows on it though.

Not to go back and forth with this but it's obvious you ..whoever started this thread, are not a fan of jay so what's the point?

On the subject of greatest of all time....One can judge success in many ways...money, fame, album sales, longevity and first. If you really take a step back and look at it Jay Z is without a doubt the most successful rapper in music history..the accomplishments are too many to list. He is really one of the most succesful artist in music history period. He did all of it through his music and his music still is the reason for his relevancy today. How could he not be the greatest MC of all time? By what other means can we OBJECTIVELY judge it?

Objectively he's not the best. I'd say Tupac because

1. Next to Eminem he's the most successful rapper

2. He's still known by millions even after his death (all but one posthumous has gone platinum)

3. Greatest Hits and All Eyez On Me are two of the few rap albums to go diamond (Even if they're double disc it's still a big achivement.)

4. He's had 2 number ones. Jay's only number one hit is Empire State Of Mind

5. California Love has had over a million digital downloads

Im sorry but I disagree with this not because I am not a Jay z fan but with how you derived to this conclusion and how you define the best.

Objectively Jay Z is not one of the BEST rappers and in my opinion doesnt make a TOP 10 list. Also, Jay Z is NOT a MC. He is a RAPPER there is DIFFERENCE. I discussed this earlier on the first page.

Although, Jay does write some of his material..

Jay Z doesnt free style

Jay Z doesnt battle

Jay Z also steals concepts from other more better MCs and is not innovative nor creative.

His punch lines are generic just like his music is and any REAL hip hop lover will tell you this. I think its unfair that you base the best on how much money they have and hits because if we were going to look at it like that then I guess Jay Z is better than most musicians..

The best is defined by talent, quality and just overall artistic ability not how much money or hits especially in an industry like this where hits are easy and not based on talent.

I say 2pac is the BEST rapper objectively because he had the WHOLE package. He was popular but he still made quality relatable music, he was a GREAT performer unlike boring Jay Z, he exactly was a poet and wrote most of his material, very creative lyrically and made alot of complex songs, did freestyles and battled. Tupac was a MC and he has more of a profound impact on Hip Hop (music) rather than Jay Z who gets that title because he has alot of money.

Well said mjcariousal. I coulnd't have said it better myself. Spoken like a true hip hop fan who knows their stuff and not some casual rap fan making assumptions.

I actually like some of Jay's raps and think that he's added alot to the culture. battling is also apart of hip hop culture and he took a battle loss on 'Ether.' That's all I was conveying. I never said Esco was the best rapper. I personally don't think that I can name the best one.

All time greats of any genre must 1st be historically successful. Jay only trails I think the Beatles for #1 records. I won't debate content because that's just too subjective. Longevity isn't. 1995 to present Jays music is still relevant...that's a 17 year run...Name another artist hip hop or otherwise who can lay claim to that? Just like Jordan will forever be the iconic model for athletes..jay will be for rappers. CEO/President of Def Jam one of the iconic labels of hip hop..I dare say without it we might not be talking about the genre now. Historic. First hip hop artist to own a stake in an NBA franchise. NY times best selling aurthor. Clothing line, label..list goes on.

I love PAC, B.I.G, Scarface, Outkast.you name em, lyrically or just as good or better...but you have to look at an artist impact on the genre, music as a whole, culture, business, boundaries broken and legacy to get a ticket to the Greatest Ever debate.

Jay-Z and Nas beef? Damn...yall taking me back to '01 when I used to post on the hip-hop sites. lol lol

I always thought Nas kinda had the edge on this one, but I know the "beef" brought some life into hip hop because it was getting real stale at that time.

Your arguement makes NO sense at all. Objectively if your looking at Jayz contribution to HIP HOP its ZERO... MCs like Tupac and even Rakim has better IMPACT.

This is not about business or boundaries broken because to be honest Tupac did that way back in the 90s before Jay Z even took off with popularity which was after he passed. Jay Z raps about dumb shit... folks like Nas and Krs stays true to HIP HOP and the culture.. Even NWA brought hip hop culture more to the forefront than Jay Z who raps about bitches, money and rims... pleaseeee

Are you serious????

The fact that the President quoted him at an event doesnt mean anything.

We are talking about HIP HOP... not popularity. Jay Z has offered NOTHING to the genre like artists like 2pac, Rakim, Nas, etc have. Jay Z doesnt even MAKE Hip Hop. He makes POP music.

I advise you to just be quiet
