I agree with you...but men can bring a perspective women can....and they Rick like monkeys business. But yeah, women seem to have more interesting voices, I think its actually their social allowance for flamboyant vocal acrobats.

I definitely agree. The main male artists that I really love tend to be a bit eccentric.

If you will, so will I

Damn. I promise you I am not a complete idiot. An idiot who doesn't proofread bus post despite knowing the autotype thingy on my HTC EVO scrambles my words...yes.
Rick like monkeys business? WTF!
I can't even remember what I was trying to type now, but it sure as hell wasn't what came out.

Wait...I deciphered it. Rock like mother fuckers. Rarely can a chick front a rock band...properly. Joan Jet is a great example. Heart...bleh....stevie nix...bleh...

Wait a minute. hammer

Are we counting Prince as a male?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think that of myself also.

Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson I'd say are the mainstream on my list.

For the purposes of this thread yes.

RuPaul however, counts as female.

lol I had not idea what you were trying to say, so I was just ignoring that part.

I never try to sell men who are convinced that "chicks don't rock" on the female driven rock music that I like, because most usually already have their minds made up on the subject, but I understand what you mean.

I once played an X-Ray Spex album for my friend who "loves punk" and he proceeded to claim that that was "pussy punk" and real punk music would be Green Day and Less Than Jake barf

If you will, so will I

I would say my CD collection is comprised of about 70% female artists. Although I love a lot of male artists, for the most part, they generally don't step up to the plate and knock it out of the ballpark for me like most female artists do.

I find male vocalists expressive.

More than one person in this thread has said that, but I disagree that male vocalists are less expressive.

I realize that that is a subjective observation.

Women having a wider range I don't think makes them 'more' expressive.

I always joke that I'm a musical lesbian -- my computer playlist is overwhelmingly female, and for whatever reason I tend to not like male singers with deep voices. It's somewhat idiotic, but sometimes bass voices flat-out scare me. confuse All the male singers I like best are tenors, I think. I don't really notice a difference in talent or emoting between the sexes, but that could also depend on who you listen to.

And yeah, I think the reason a lot of people's playlists being predominantly male is a result of the industry. The artists played on my Pandora list are probably split about 50/50 genderwise, which is weird because my usual Quickmix stations are Sinead O'Connor, En Vogue, Neneh Cherry, Loreena McKennitt, and Janet. My co-worker has just a few grunge and rock stations, and I don't think I've ever heard a female artist on her QuickMix station. Somehow I doubt that Pandora's the one being sexist....

By no design, I overwhelmingly gravitate toward female solo acts and male-lead bands. If I must consider why, I suppose I find that women run circles around men where vulnerability, confession, nuance, intimacy and a sort of quiet sensuality are concerned. On the other hand, no one does whimsy or sheer abandon like a group of guys bouncing off one-another.
