Can Charlie Wilson make it in country Don't know if he really could but i know there is some Gap Band songs that he could actually flip country like Lionel did.
When Charlie time runs out with the contemporary stuff he should re reinvent himself and go back into his past when he was wearing the cowboy hat and the boots with the Gap Band in the early years. Hell he's from Tulsa, OK and he'd already look the part. I would love to see him duet with Darrius Rucker on Stay With Me.

OMG, fuck country radio!!
They're so racist.
I mean, The Dixie Chics get branded heretics for speaking out against Bush, but non of the stations are burning Ted Nuggent CDs for what he said about Obama.
Fuck....Country....Music.
Perhaps Charlie should try Folk rock instead.

I don't think Charlie would make a country album. [Edited 4/22/12 11:49am] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I think he should make a jazz record. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ya know, I've said this before. I think some of his ballads have a thin line to c&w, a change of production arrangments, and you got yourself a c&w Uncle Charlie album.

Lionel is more well known (mainstream wise) than Charlie and Lionel also had some songs in the past that were popular with the country audience. So if Charlie were to do this, he'd pretty much be a "new" act. Many veteran country acts don't get much airplay (if at all) on country radio now, so it'll be harder for him as an act of an older age. I can see why you think that. In some songs he sings with a semi country/ sountern feel. Charlie has an amazing voice it would be interesting to see if he could pull it off.
