Soulmusic.com has two new Lady T releases on the way later this summer... TEENA MARIE: EMERALD CITY EXPANDED EDITION (SMCR-5059) Track listing: 1. Emerald City 2. Once Is Not Enough 3. Lips To Find You 4. You So Heavy 5. Shangri-La 6. Batucada Suite 7. Love Me Down Easy 8. Sunny Skies Bonus tracks: 9. Lips To Find You (US Instrumental) 10. Love Me Down Easy (US 12” single) 11. Love Me Down Easy (US Instrumental 12” single) 12. 14K – (track from "The Goonies" soundtrack) 13. Lead Me On (track from the "Top Gun" soundtrack) • The late, great TEENA MARIE had established herself as a consistent hitmaker as a result of five albums for Motown; after signing with Epic Records in 1983, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and musician released Robbery (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012 as an expanded edition, SMCR-5047) following it with her breakthrough 1984 set Starchild (which contained the major hit single, “Lovergirl), reissued by SoulMusic Records as an expanded edition (SMCR-5048). • The 1986 critically-acclaimed set EMERALD CITY (a US Top 20 R&B best-seller), had a distinctly different flavour from its predecessor: considered more of a concept album from a lyrical standpoint, the eight-track set showcased Teena’s expressive creativity as a songwriter with original compositions like “Lips To Find You,” “Shangri La,” “Love Me Down Easy” and “Sunny Skies.” • Star players who worked on EMERALD CITY included jazz greats Branford Marsalis and Stanley Clarke, blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan and funkateer Bootsy Collins alongside ‘A’ list musicians such as Nathan East, Paulinho DaCosta, Abraham Laboriel and John Robinson. • This expanded edition of EMERALD CITY features six bonus cuts including two tracks from soundtracks to which Teena contributed, “Lead Me On” (from “Top Gun”) and the dance hit “14K” (from “The Goonies!). • Essay by renowned US writer A. Scott Galloway include quotes from key players involved with the project. Link: http://www.soulmusic.com/...p;ART=2448 TEENA MARIE: NAKED TO THE WORLD EXPANDED EDITION (SMCR-5060) Track listing: 1. Trick Bag 2. Call Me (I Got Yo Number) 3. Ooo La La La 4. Crocodile Tears 5. Opus III - The Second Movement 6. Surrealistic Pillow 7. The Once And Future Dream 8. Work It 9. The Ball 10. Naked To The World Bonus Tracks: 11. Ooo La La La (US 12” version) 12. Sing One To Your Love (US Instrumental Version of "Ooo La La La") 13. Work It (US Special 12" Hip Hop Mix) 14. Surrealistic Pillow (US Sexy Pillow Remix) • The late, great TEENA MARIE had established herself as a consistent hitmaker as a result of five albums for Motown followed by her first three albums for Epic - 1983’s Robbery (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012 as an expanded edition, SMCR-5047), the breakthrough 1984 set Starchild (SMCR-5048) and 1986’s concept-driven Emerald City (SMCR-5059). • The singer, songwriter, producer and musician’s 1988 set, NAKED TO THE WORLD catapulted Teena back into the U.S. best-seller lists (reaching No. 15 on the R&B charts), buoyed by her first (and only) No. 1 R&B hit, the now-classic “Ooo La La” and two duets with funkmaster Rick James - who had produced her groundbreaking first Motown album - via the groove cut, “Call Me (I Got Yo Number)” and the solid slow jam “The Once And Future Dream.” • Teena worked with longtime musical collaborator Allen McGrier on the ten-track album which included the funky Top 10 U.S. R&B hit single, “Work It”; while Richard Rudolph (husband of the late Minnie Riperton, who had produced her second Motown set, Lady T) served as executive producer. • This expanded edition of NAKED TO THE WORLD features four bonus cuts including the instrumental version of “Ooo La La La” (retitled “Sing One To Your Love”). • Notes by renowned US writer Rico Washington include quotes from co-producer McGrier and ex-Klymaxx drummer Bernadette Cooper. Supposedly EMI are remastering all of The Beatles albums for vinyl and are to be released sometime this year. I'll believe it when I see it. I know some of the Capitol albums (ie. Hey Jude) are still in print on vinyl and see them in the record store all the time. One store even carries a limited edition reissue of the "Butcher babies" album (Yesterday and Today). You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Of course these Teena reissues would come out a MONTH after I bought the Japanese mini-LPs!! I only bought them for the bonus tracks and now I have to sell them because these reissues have the same bonus tracks and then some! Ugh.
The Sexy Pillow remix of Surrealistic Pillow is a completely different vocal take from the original. Plus it has some different lyrics and different melodies. I love it!! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I already have both soundtrack songs that are appearing on "Emerald City" reissue so I'll skip that one. But, I will definately be picking up "Naked to The World". "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Yeah I picked up the 1986 original Emerald City CD for $10 bucks at Amazon and I am satisfied with it. I also swiped those Japan mini-LPs for Robbery and Starchild earlier this year as well. The only one I really need is Naked to the World and my Teena collection will be complete. Great value and timing. Check me out and add me on:

Little Willie John was a genuine architect of soul. Along with Clyde McPhatter, Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, the visionary singer stood at the forefront of fusing gospel intensity to rhythm and blues tradition. And had he not died inside a Walla Walla prison at the age of 30, his name would likely be etched in the same soul pantheon as his peers. In his short career, Willie cut a string of seminal sides for Cincinnati-based King Records from 1955-61 that rank among the finest R&B ever waxed. As Motown legend Lamont Dozier says in Bill Dahl's notes to this collection, "Willie John was just an extraordinary talent. He knew how to touch you with a song, and he knew how to raise the hairs on the back of your neck."
Real Gone Music will offer the most comprehensive collection of this overlooked soul superstar ever assembled: two CDs, 32 tracks that include every chart hit plus its accompanying, seldom-compiled B-side. And the B-sides are where some of the real fun is: joining such landmark R&B recordings as "Fever," "All Around the World," "Need Your Love So Bad" and "Home at Last" on this collection are such crackling tunes as "Spasms," "Let's Rock While the Rockin's Good" and "Do You Love Me" (recorded with Little Richard's band the Upsetters). You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Music City Records is pleased to release an authorized reissue of this award-winning Gospel music work by Charley Pride. Originally released by RCA Records in 1971, the entire album has been digitally remastered especially for this long-awaited CD edition.
In 1972, Pride was honored with two GRAMMY Awards® related to the album -- Best Gospel Performance (Other Than Soul Gospel) for the Ben Peters penned single "Let Me Live" and Best Sacred Performance for the album itself.
Charley's rendition of "Wings Of A Dove," the bonus track, originally appeared on his 1968 album entitled MAKE MINE COUNTRY. The song is best known for being a massive number one Country hit for Ferlin Husky and makes a fine addition to the original repertoire of the DID YOU THINK TO PRAY album.
This special reissue features mini-LP type packaging that is also eco-friendly. The paperboard CD wallet has been engineered to securely house the disc and sized so that it can be stored alongside standard CD releases that are packaged in plastic jewel cases. Designed with a retro theme in mind, the packaging incorporates the original LP cover artwork and adds both historical notes and expanded production details. The package also includes a disc that is designed to mimic a vinyl LP and a flashspun polyethylene CD dust sleeve (like an old-style, paper record dust sleeve) that provides an additional level of protection for the disc.
