Nonsense, Prince did not make her, she was a huge star in Britain before Prince was even on the charts. Morning train from 1980, was her first huge hit, and she was discovered on a British TV talent programme. She is about 42, I think she was barely 20 when she hit with Morning Train. But by 1984 after the huge hit "For Your eyes only", Prince gave her the smutty little hit Sugar Walls and everyone thinks that was her start. I am not sure about her origin, but I suspect she has some Asian blood in her as well (Malaysian or Chinese) but I may be wrong and confuisng her with early 90s singer Betty Boo (Doing the Do, Boomania), the one who was caught lipsinking in 1990 on stage. Scotland seems to be good at throwing up these very beautiful partly exotic singers, the lead singer of Texas, last name is Spiteri is Maltese, so she is probably mixed Scottish/Maltese. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yeah I remember it quite well. I guess i'm old Morning Train really put her on the map in a big way. It was by far her biggest hit. Her more sexual image came largely because of "Strut", which Prince had nothing to do with. Prince was primarily responsible for launching Sheila E's career. Sheena Easton was a star in her own right and she only dabbled with Prince on a few projects (including the flop "Eternity" which was a fiasco... although a good record).
But she was quite a star way before her work with Prince. * * *

Shiela is not the same situation. She was a session musician, she didn't have any pop success or hit records like Sheena. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Agreed-folks need to stop trying to pretend like Prince "made" everybody into a star. Love the guy, but in this case Ms. Easton was a star before Prince even took off.

Speaking of her hits, anybody else think "Telephone" - one of Sheena's biggest hits - owes a huge debt to Laura Branigan's "Gloria" (which was itself a cover of an Italian single)?
Especially the chorus, and the keyboard riff.
I wanna sing "calling Gloria!!!!" in 'Telephone' after the chorus and the "oh-oh!" LOL

U Got the Look, 1987
Prince + Sheena Easton
Here we are folks
The dream we all dream off
Boy versus girl in the World Series of love
Tell me, have U got the look?
U walked in, I woke up
I never seen a pretty girl
Look so tough, baby
U got that look
Color U peach and black
Color me takin' aback
Crucial, I think I wantcha
You've got the look, you've got the hook
U sho'nuf do be cookin' in my book
Your face is jammin'
Your body's heck-a-slammin'
If love is good, let's get 2 rammin'
U got the look, U got the look
Look here
U got the look (U got the look)
U must'a took (U must'a took)
A whole hour just 2 make up your face, baby
Closin' time, ugly lights, everybody's inspected (everybody's inspected)
But U are a natural beauty unaffected (unaffected)
Did I say an hour?
My face is red, I stand corrected (I stand corrected)
You've got the look, you've got the hook
U sho'nuf do be cookin' in my book
Your face is jammin'
Your body's heck-a-slammin'
If love is good, let's get 2 rammin'

^ All Prince did was give her the song and he put his own "prince touch" on her i.e. dressing like a skank that's it. The voice and the charm were already hers.

I thought she was great. I remember "Morning Train" when it came out (I was about 4 or 5) and the catchy adhesive pop chorus, "My baby, he's a working man, he works from 9 to 5 each day" and the video showing her with a very mid 80s look for 1980 ( I would have expected a coiffure and least one overly flared or lapelled piece of clothing) riding a hobby train and then a real one. Its the memories that are zapped into your mind. In Comparison, I barely remember Sugar Walls, and don't even like it, in fact all her Prince era material is dross compared to Mornin Train. U got the look is alright, but Arms of Orion is aural torture. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Probably the first time black folks heard of her was because of Prince because that's how I got to know her but she was around before I was born. Otherwise this woman already had like three Grammys before she got with him.

Yep! I can't stand Sugar Walls HATED IT but love her more "innocent" songs like Morning Train and For Your Eyes Only-beautiful songs that suit her voice. [Edited 4/19/12 16:13pm]

Prince so nasty.
"Blood races to your private spots"
"Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls"
And people wonder why Kandi from Xscape is putting powdered sugar in her veejayjay. Its all Prince's fault. Ol dog. Gawd I love him! I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Prince got it backwards doesn't he? The good children COME OUT of heaven, assuming heaven is pussy. Sometimes they take the short route and get cut out of heaven. Or something. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

If no one knew what the song meant, how could it have made her a sex symbol? It would be no different than singing I Am The Walrus.
